I have direct tv in my coach and some places my dome won't work due to blockages. so my question is i have a dish satellite with a single lnb with two hook ups coming out of it, will it work with my diect tv recievers?
i want to mount it on a tripod and take it out away from the coach where it will get a signal. my friend gave me the dish network dish and said it might work? this is why i am asking for a pros thoughts. thank you

For the reason of making money, Dish and Direct have their own LNB. So to answer your question, no. Sorry

I can hook up to either the Direct or Dish satellite(s) with my portable antenna. Just need to feed it into the respective receiver from with Direct to Dish. Don't believe the LNB needs to be different.

We had a KingDome which had a simple switch to change it between Dish and DirecTV. The dome was a piece of junk but there is no difference; the DTV 101, 110 and 119 satellites and the Dish birds at 61.5, 110 and 119 are Ku band satellites. The LNB is the same.

Well I guess I have been fooled again. When Direct hooked up my equipment for my RV I pulled out my Dish dish and he said "nope will not work". Then he explain that the LNB's where set up different. No wondered he smiled when I gave him $135.00 for a Direct dish.

Thanks to all that posted on this question. I have been wondering about this for awhile. I went from Direct to Dish and haven't tried the RV set up yet.

if you have a single LNB, i can see how it might work. But with multiple LNB's they dishes are different due to the different angles to "see" the birds flying out there in outer space. DishNework uses different satellite locations.

I tried it. My Dishnetwork (110/119/129) dish would not work for DirectTV in Texas.

These days it's more than just position that makes this impossible. For DirecTV only one satellite is needed (101) for SD, but two others (99 and 103) are needed for HD (the 110 and 119 are no longer needed for English-language broadcasts). The problem is that 99 and 103 are Ka band satellites so they transmit on a different frequency band; none of the LNBs designed for Ku band satellites will work.

The fact that the 110 and 119 satellites are no longer needed is not well known even by some DirecTV CSRs. What makes it even more confusing is that my Winegard Trav'ler HD version still uses the 110 and 119 satellites to assist in peaking the skew (the tilt) of the dish even though no signals are actually used from those two birds.

What's really bad is that some unscrupulous retailers and installers are selling customers 101/110/119 dishes at relatively high prices even though they will not receive HD and are no more capable than a single LNB at 101. (110 and 119 used to have HD channels).

Just so you know, if it has two connections it's a dual, not a single, (Two LNB's is a TWIN, yours is a SOLO, I know confusing)

It should work, NON HD only,

ON the LNB line to the Receiver install a low cost A/B switch such as the RCA VH-71 from Google store (One buck, google "ANTENNA SWITCH" quotes optional)

A goes to the Roof top Dome up ABOVE
B goes to a connector in the Bulkhead (Wall, called a through wall as well) or Basement down Below. C (The single connection on the other sice) to the LNB IN on teh receiver, USe all RG-6 cable for those runs.

Beyond that I do not have much to offer you won't find elsewhere

Or you could go with a DirecTV Disaster recovery kit for the dish.. That's triple LNB, one KU two KA and does HD as well,, if that is you have an HD receiver.

mine is set up just as you say with switchs up by the recievers. I set it up this weekend and it worked just fine. This is out 3rd summer with this coach and i just figured out what those hook ups were in the basement compartment. Now i can get tv when the dome on the roof is blocked. Thanks all for your repelys
