Dish and Winegard issues

having problem with dish and winnegard vantage x2. The dish ,at night, will keep searching for something when TV is off, is this normal? When I have front TV on and turn the back TV on, I have to reboot and start the process over, and there are times When I turn the back TV on it works on it's own, trying to figure out why that doesn't happen all the time. The teck's at winngard say that that is impossible to work that way,I ask help me to find out why I am able to do this and they do not have an answer, nice answer.
I loose local stations on rear TV and the rep at Dish told me I should not expect to pick them up at all,I ask how come I can ,his answer is impossible. If any body can help ,thanks

Welcome to IRV2! I can't help you on the rest of your question, but I have a Pathway X1 and it does the same. When you turn the satellite receiver off, it continues to search and is fairly noisy on the roof.

I contacted Winegard and apparently it is normal for it to try and update when the receiver is turned off. Their solution was to unplug the receiver so there is no power going to it, but then it would have to re-acquire the satellite every morning.

My solution was to leave the receiver turned on at night and just turn the TV off. That way the dish stays locked onto whatever channel is active.

Also in the DISH receiver programming there is a setup for shutting the receiver down after so many hours of no activity. You can go into the preferences setup and select to never shut down automatically and also while your there set the up date time to a time when you would be watching TV so you can tell it to skip the update each time it tries to update. Doing these two things will keep the antenna from "hunting" in the middle of the night. Also, as was stated earlier, never turn off the receiver- only turn off the TV.

As to the local stations issue, locals are spot beamed. So if you move outside that spot beam area you would lose those locals. Or if one TV gets the locals and another doesn't then the problem is with the individual TV not the receiver.
