My daughter just moved and had the Dish Network as I do at the house. They did not want the receiver back so she gave it to me. I hooked it up to the Dish outside my house using only one LNB and it worked just did not get all the chanels. My qusetion is how long will it will it work before it is deprogramed? It has a card in it, but the receiver in the house does not have one. I quess it is programed thru the telephone line. I was wanting to use it rather than unhook the one in the house and take it out to the RV.

Tom,
If she has closed her account and it still works, it's probably an old style receiver that they can't deprogram until the smart card is changed. It'll probably get all the channels if you hook it to both LNB's.
If it were me I'd just use it and smile.

Tom, I can't say how long your daughter's account will be active, but Dish only charges us $5.00 or $10.00 mo. for the additional receiver. (Neither one is connected to a phone line.)
We have a receiver both in our MH and our house. It does make it convenient, but I would definitely put the one with the card in the MH. On two different occasions lately, when we didn't travel for a month or more, we couldn't access any channels in the MH. We got a message saying our Smart Card wasn't authorized to view the channel. We would then need to call Dish and they would do their "voodoo" which runs you nuts, and then our channels would come back. Once, when we were gone about five months, the same thing happened at our house when we returned.
We have a manual Sat. dish on top of our MH with one LNB, and if we are staying someplace for only a couple days, we use it and access one satellite (119). We also carry another Sat. dish with two LNBs, and a tripod that we set up for longer stays. After four years, we are seriously thinking of changing to Direct TV so we can access all the channels with one LNB.
Just for information... We subscribe to our local broadcast channels (NBC, CBS, etc.) here in Dallas. We found we could still pick them up about 235 miles from our home, although Dish said we could only pick them up 20 miles from ouor home. When we made a 400 mile trip to Corpus Christi we could not pick them up there.

Good question. I have Dish and the receiver in the RV worked fine for a while and then they updated via Satellite I guess and knocked me off. I now pay $5.00 extra a month for the extra receiver and also set up for 119 as it has 90% of the channels I use.
