Dish Network and the void...

I have been using Dish for of a year without a problem. I guess all good things must come to an end. Last month I turned on our service for a trip. It normally last about 30 days and shuts off. Then when I want it again I call and turn it back on. This time I turned on my service on November 3rd, on the 23 it was shut off. I called and they turned it back on for the next couple days. Which didn't really matter, I was taking it back to storage. I go to turn it on today and they tell me I have a past due bill. If I pay it the service will last until the 24 of December. That is 20 days. Somehow I have hit this imaginary loop hole that they fail to tell you. However, I can wait until after the 10 of December to get a new date. This is totally stupid!!! I am seriously thinking about telling them to bugger off. Even though it will cost me to have to buy a new receiver for direct tv. Ugh!

It's based on billing cycle -- somehow you've just been fortunate before that your trips have coincided with your billing cycle. All providers do this as far as I know -- your service is either on for a billing cycle, or off.

Sounds confusing, glad I have Dish for the house also. For $7 a month I leave one in the rv all the time and then when I leave on a longer trip or winter I carry the dvr out.

I have Dish pay-as-u-go. Turn it on - stays on for 30 days from that date, then goes off. Then when next ready I go online and pay again and it's on for another 30 days. No problem.

That's is what I have vsheetz. I guess you will eventually see it happen to you. Or it already has and you haven't noticed.

If you switch to DirecTV you will be signing up for a 24 month contract. I'd stick to Dish Pay as you Go assuming you don't need satellite full time.

Same here. When I have it turned on it is good for 30 days no matter what time of the month I have it activated.

What I really like is I can call them daily with a new physical address and they will change it and I can get local channels.

Possibly there is mixing of "activation" vs. Authorization here.

The receiver will go off line if it doesn't get an authorization every couple of weeks. I have tried to pin down a Dish rep about the actual interval before the receiver turns off it's authorization, but never got a good answer.

The activation is based on the last monthly billing date and if I see the dates above correctly, the account may have never gone dormant, so Dish wanted their subscription fee for Nov AND Dec.

Dish doesn't track how often your receiver drops authorazation and if you are like me, they auto-bill each month unless I call to suspend the service.

AND like was said above, I haven't heard that Direct even has a PayAsYouGo type account, so their contract would ensure that you get billed each and every month.
