I had a traveller satellite dish installed and hood it up to my DISH network receiver that I took from my stick home. Two questions:
Can I get DISH to provide network channels when I am out of my home area? Many channels hang up on acquiring signal and the only solution is to go to the menu then the guide to even change channels. Help!?

Local channels,i.e. network feeds are only available within a certain distance of your home. The reason is that these are broadcast by spotbeam over that small area. This makes for less satellite space for the locals.

You can get the network feeds out of New york or La, but it goes through sobongo (used to go by a different name) and the fee is as much as my monthly dish plan just for the network feeds. That's rediculous, I just use the batwing antenna for local network feeds.

Other than a message that I am out of the area for my local channels when I try to select them, my Dish system works exactly as it does in my home. I use the Winegard Trav'ler also. You could try the Dish customer help 1-800 number. They were great when I installed my unit in April. I just installed receivers which I leave in the coach. They run $7 per receiver per month on your bill and can be deactivated or re-activated with just a phone call. Also I was told that any Dish receiver would work but according to the installation instructions from Winegard you should use a 322 or 622.

Thanks, I have a 722 receiver but will probably get an additional one in September when we return. I will call DISH to see what they suggest about the hangs. I have not done a check switch because it gives me a warning about missing equipment.

You are going to have to do a check switch to ensure that your receiver operates properly with the hardware currently connected. Get the antenna up and pointed and do the check switch and you should not have this problem any longer.
I am not sure what the above poster is referring to when he mentions sobongo but the Dish Network DNS (Distant Network Services) are provided through a company called All American Direct. This is the website. https://www.mydistantnetworks.com/ They can provide you with ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox from both NY and San Francisco for a very reasonable fee (around $14/month).
Any receiver you now have or choose to use in the future will work just fine with the Trav'ler antenna.

Bill,
When I contacted American Direct, according to the phone messages and prompts along with the agent I spoke with they are now part of a new company name called Sobongo or something like that. I did recieve the forms and info for getting the distant network feeds off of their website. But also according to the website the fee for all of them, ABC, NBC, FOX, and CBS was around $125 per month. I may have mis-interpreted the website or this may be for stand alone service not coupled with a dish package.

If I am mis-informed please excuse my comments on the network info. If you can let us all know the actual deal and prices for the network feeds.

Roy I did do a check switch on mine during set-up and all is good.

Sorry for any mis-information as I am also new to mobile sattelite Tv.

The link above will get you where you need to go with DNS service and All-American Direct. From their website you can get the 4 networks from NY and San Fran for $14.99/month.

All Americas Direct also has an option for high definition network feeds out of Chicago. I dropped the SD feeds from NY and San Fransisco and switched to the HD feeds. Works great

I did do the check switch and that rewolved my problems. When I went to the website for mydistantnetworks I had to go to the FAQs then click on a link for pricing. All 4 networks from either East or West coast are 12.95 / month or both coasts for 14.99 / month. HD is 16.96 / month. Seems reasonable to me.
Thanks for all the help.

Roy

Yep, that's the information that I see as well. Glad to hear you have it all working. Just remember that you have to download, fill out and send in the RV Waiver form to activate your Networks if you choose to go that route. It's not something you can do by phone.
