Hey all!! New to the club and couldn't be happier!

Wife and I bought an '03 Damon Escaper last summer. Prior to that, we had never even been camping - so this is all very new to us, but we love it.

Given my rig is an '03, it has an out-dated satellite dish that (as I understand) can only point to one sat at a time. We use Dish Network at home and can use the service in our RV for free if we buy a receiver. Here's the question - does anyone know of 1) the best Dish Net receiver to buy for older technology, and 2) where can we buy it (hopefully the CO area).

Thanks !!!!!

Rocket -

For the response - which receiver do you use? Does it have a model number? We also have the KingDome automatic dish thing, but need advice on the receiver?

You can buy a receiver on EBAY or at any satellite shop that sells retail, I bought my original on EBAY and after a power surge on the road fried it, I called the satellite shops in the area and bought a new one from them.

I believe you will need a 301 or 311 model, I have some of each. You will have to activate the receiver with DISH and it will cost you $5 per month, at least that is what they charged me.

Do you know if the satellite is set for DISH or DirectTV. If it is already set to find the DISH satellites you will be good to go.

Not sure if it is "set" for Dish or DTV - we were able to get a signal by using a receiver we stole from the kids room (ha!). It is an 'automatic' version of the kingdome. I did have trouble getting it to focus on the satellite that I wanted (110 or 119, etc.). It seemed to have a mind of its own and just randomly point to like 129 or something.

Could it be I need to have it re-programmed?

Here are the steps I went thru to set up receiver. (301 or 311)

1. Turn the TV and the receiver on.

2. There should be a menu button on your remote.

3. Push the menu button and then 6, 1, 1.

4. Start the satellite search and watch the screen and see if it locks on 110 and or 119. If it locks on both 110 and 119 it is set for DISH.

5. If it locks on both satellites you then need to do a "Check Switch" which is on the same screen.

6. If all is well, hit cancel until you have a screen that says "searching for satellites" or "acquiring satellite signal".

7. When that is all complete, it should go to the next screen which is "downloading guide".

If all this goes as outlined, you should be good to go.

Hope this helps.

If you are only going to hook the receiver up to one Standard Definition (SD) TV and then the 311 reciever will work just fine, 311 has no DVR just a basic SD receiver, pair it with a dual LNB portable dish and you will be able to seamlessly view programing on both 110 & 119 satellites.

Unless the kids aren't going camping with you why don't you just keep using the receiver out of their room when you go camping. If you buy another one you will have to pay the monthly fee for another receiver.

I have become quite familiar with the procedure as I have had to utilize it a few times. I am having the dome replaced with the WineGard Trav-ler at the FMCA Rally in Indio next week so we can add to HD if we want.

What makes your satellite dish outdated?? On Dish Network all HD programs are on the 129 sat. Unless you are in the eastern deep south or far north, then you point it to the 61.5 sat to receive all Dish Net HD channels. The VIP 211/ 211K will work very well in this instance.

I assume outdated because it will only "hit" one sat at a time. Also, I have no control or ability to "point it" at specific sat's that I can tell. It's one of the those KDome's that has a mind of its own - it spins randomly until it locates a sat, then locks into it. Sometimes its the 119, other times the 110, and still others the 129(or something) that only get like 5 channels and all from China or some darn place??

More help if you can offer??
