I will be up in the Pacific NW for 3 months and want to install the prepaid Dish Network receiver in my RV. I contacted Dish Network and they told me to purchase the kit from Radio Shack. My Winnebago has the Winegard Antenna installed on the roof and I dont really want the complete kit with another antenna. I asked if the RS receiver will work with my Winegard antenna and no one could tell me. I contacted a seller on Ebay and he could not tell.

Here are my questions:
Will this Prepaid receiver work with my Wingard antenna?
Is there such a thing as a Prepaid DVR receiver?

I should have come to this forum first.

Thanks
Suzanne

If you are talking about the Winegard manual crank-up antenna then you can use that antenna with any of the DirecTV or Dish Network receivers without issue.
If you have some kind of an automatic (auto-pointing, either stationary or in-motion) you may or may not be able to use it depending upon the model.

I actually have 2 antenna's. They both crank up manually. One is the type found on most RV's that pick up local programming. The other one is the one where I have to enter the numbers found when I enter the zip code. THat is the one Im talking about. I would like to hook up the prepaid receiver to that antenna.
thanks for your reply.

Ok regarding the "Enter the numbers" type.

There are several different dishes that phrase could apply to, LOOK at your antenna when it's set up.. If it has ONE White "Hockey Puck" lens at the end of the arm, then set your receiver to DISH-300 and it should work.. BUT you will only see one satelilte at a time.. If you are watching say. SyFy cahannel and then wish to watch a show on Halmark... You need to re-point

IF it has TWO of those white hockey pucks, and can rock from side to side (SKEW) It's a DISH 500 and will work with your receiver without repointing. If it has 3 of them it's a dish 1000 and will work with a Dishnetwork HDTV receiver,

But the bottom line is: It will work Or rather it should work

If you have a crank up satellite antenna (and you do) then disregard the previous post as you cannot have more than 1 LNB. This antenna will work just fine with any receiver (including your pre-paid).
You will only be able to point to 1 satellite at a time but most of the programming is on the 119 satellite anyway. You will want select this antenna when you attempt to manually point toward a satellite and if you must watch something that is on the 110 satellite you will find that satellite 7-11 degrees to the left (East) and a few degrees down depending upon your location. If it were me (and it's not) I would point to 119 and enjoy whatever was available.

OK, Bill, you answered my original question "Will this Prepaid receiver work with my Wingard antenna?" yes, Thanks (who said 'just he facts, mam)

My next question may have to be answered by Dish Network. "Is there such a thing as a Prepaid DVR receiver?"

I understand about the 119 satellite and finding another satellite.

Thanks again.

I do not believe that you will find any kind of a pre-paid DVR. I think there is only one receiver that will work with that kind of a plan and if you want to make the step up to a better level of service you are also going to have to move to "regular user" package.

That's what Im thinking also. But Im going to ask DishNetwork tomorrow. It just really hard to get any information out of them. Since I have to buy a receiver I would like to have the DVR. I am a regular customer of DN but cannot combine the two.....hence the prepaid for a few months.

You have been helpful
Thanks again

If you are already a DN customer, why aren't you just adding another receiver to your existing account and hitting the road?

That sounds like a complicated story. If you have a US address then you can combine most anything you want. If you are getting some kind of MX service on Dish then you are out of my league of understanding.

According to Dish Network's website, there is only one receiver for the DishNOW! -- the Model 3900. You can ask, but I doubt it's a DVR (I would think that Radio Shack, where you bought or are going to buy the receiver would know the answer).

Thanks Linda, I actually contacted DN and they said I can activate my current 301 receiver for $5.00 a month because I have an account for my home. A couple of years they said I had to have a different contract for my RV. Then in 3 months I can just deactivate it. Its not a DVR but I can do without that.

Thanks for you reply.

Dive-n-diva, I have a dish 301 I use in my RV. I have it on my account as an "Extra" receiver and pay the 5.00/mo for it. After I bought the receiver I just activated it and keep it in the house and plug it in the the dish on the home roof when not in the RV. I use a splitter to do this. OK the reason I keep the receiver on the home dish antenna is that if you just do not keep the receiver "hook" into the dish system the receiver will lose its "brain" (my word) and if the brain is out you have to call the dish cs to "re-activate" the receiver every time you try to use the receiver after being "off" for a while. Just an FYI, if you can keep the receiver on a satellite dish you will save dialing up dish cs everytime you want to use it.
