Okay, we have removed the old TVs from our Newmar and mounted a 32" HD LCD up front and a 26" HD LCD in the bedroom. The coach is a 2006, so it has an older Winegard dome that cannot get an HD signal. We really want to upgrade to HD, so any advice as to experiences with both DirecTV and Dish would be appreciated. We are full-time, using DirecTV SD right now and don't really love it, so really looking at Dish. Also, is the Trav'ler a better option than a dome? We plan on doing that upgrade as soon as possible. The older dome seems to work okay, no issues so far, but we haven't really put it to the test yet, we've been in one spot for a couple of months and won't actually be on the road full time until the end of May. Any opinions are appreciated.

Thanks!

I have DISH and replaced the dome with the Winegard Travler. One of the best upgrades I have made.

We have had Direct for 8 years.
Last year when we installed the new 32 inch TV and decided to get HD, I took a look at both the Direct TV and Dish Network program line-up. Direct had more HD programing than Dish.
Dish does plays a numbers game by a funny count of pay movie channels but if you do a side by side comparison Direct had more. Pricing was similar. We stayed with Direct.
Both will give new customers HD at no extra charge. Although I was an existing customer they gave HD to me free for two years.

We had the Winegard Traveler SK-3005 installed last Jan so we now have HD and really enjoy it.

One disadvantage of Direct is that the SK-3005 is quite a bit more expensive than the SK-1000 that is for Dish.

Dish Network offers free HD for life with a 2 year contract extension.

That's what I see the most of out there but there is another option.

MotoSat is the brand I believe but I think it is more expensive than the Traveler.
Maybe someone will chime in with why they prefer it.

The Trav'ler is definitely the way to go with either network. We replaced our dome with the 1000 model (for Dish). It's a lot faster than I am setting up a tripod

Are you sure your current Winegard dome will not receive HD. I know it will not work with Direct TV HD, but it should work with Dish HD. All it may need is a programing update to find Dish's 129 SAT. Thats the one Dish uses for most if not all their HD. I think I would call Winegard with the model number and ask, who knows you may save yourself from spending big $$$.

Thanks IIIkrob, we did contact Winegard and they told us the dome couldn't get HD. I'm not climbing back up there to get the numbers again!!!

One think I like about Dish is their dual tuner/dual outlet receivers like the 722. One receiver can feed two TVs. There are two remote controls (one IR, one RF). Tuner 1 output is HD and tuner 2 is SD. It can also record with either or both of the tuners. We use output one to the living room TV and output 2 to the bedroom.
