Dish receiver and multiple TV's

I am having difficulty getting the bedroom TV to receive the signal from my Dish Network receiver box. The box that directs which input signal (SAT/ANT/Etc...) to which TV (front/bedroom/exterior) is connected to the receiver box via the yellow/red/white audio/visual cables and seems to work intermittently. I get perfect and un-interrupted signal to the front TV whatn I use a single HDMI cable directly from the satellite receiver box to the front TV. Does this mean my problem is likely the box that routes signal to the multiple TV's? Hoping someone may have had a similar problem and can share their results.

Thanks,

Hal

Sounds like it. Could also be a cable issue but i would put money on a bad connector box.

On my switch box, the 3 wire cable (commonly called a composite cable) is connected to the DVD.

The SAT input on my switch box is a COAX cable and is routed to the downstream TV's on channel 3 or 4 as selected on the box.

I also have a dedicated HDMI cable to the main TV that is not part of the switch box. Only the HDMI output is actual HD. All the other output types are usually only different grades of SD.

Is the "SAT" input to the switchbox a COAX or composite cable?

Anyway, since you say you are using the composite input on the switch box to route the SAT box signal, then there is a possibility that you are at or exceeding the distance that the SAT box can send the signal...especially if you have multiple TV's sharing the signal within the switchbox.

Maybe, if you ensure all other TV's on the switch box are switched to another input (like "Ant" or "VCR"), then the signal could make it thru to that one distant TV that you desire.

If this does not work, then you could use the SAT receivers COAX output...that is a strong signal that is only slightly less clear than the component lines.

I appreciate the input. It seems my issue is intermittent. It worked great yesterday with no change to the wiring configuration. I will monitor for a pattern, but until then I feel like I'm chasing a ghost.

If you connect the Sat Receiver to the switch box with the yellow-red-white cable and it sometimes works, it means you have a modulator in the switch box that converts the composite yellow-red-white output of Sat Receiver to RF Channel 3 or 4. That is an analog Channel 3 or 4. If you scanned the channels with your Switchbox set to Antenna, the TV might not have picked up Channel 3 or 4. When using the rear TV if it doesn't come on manually go to Channel 3 or 4.

Usually the Switch Box gets the Sat Receiver output via the RF Channel 3 or 4 coax output. If you connect that to Sat In on the Switch Box you should have no problems. Few Switch Boxes have the built in modulator.
