We have Dish TV and are very dissapointed to find out that we can't get network channels when on the road. Has anyone found a way around this?

Distant Network Service (DNS) is available for a small fee.

See the sticky at the top of this forum for All American Direct (for Dish Customers).

Thanks Dirk, this solves a long time problem, but they make you buy the receiver, the service won't go to leased ones. Go figure.

Craig, what are you referring to? If you have a receiver in your name and you have an RV in your name then you do qualify for the Distant Network services through All American. What does get sketchy is if you have an RV with a Montana LLC and a receiver in some other name or vice versa.

Well Bill, every time I talk to someone at Dish, I get different information. The latest is that, all we have to do is call Dish and give them the address of our new location and they will re-direct the signal to us. We do not have the Montana issue to deal with as we are registered in our home state of Ca. We hit the road on Sunday and will see if the info they gave us this time is correct.

NOTE: If you call someone who knows from a hole in the ground at DISH.. They should give you all american's phone number.

Of course, finding someone who knows from a hole in the ground..........

I have Dish for 10 years now and ever since we cannot get DNS I just call them when I move to get the locals for the new area. Have never had a problem. I am full time though and do not have a stick house account but don't know why they care. I don't call them when I'm just traveling and stopping in an area for a day or two because I really don't watch anything on the networks except sports.

I guess if you want the hassles of calling Dish every single time you move that would be a workable option for you (not for me, but I am not you).
I like to be able to watch TV at every single location that I stop. That includes Network TV. If this is what you would like to be able to do as well, then you need to call All American and have them sign you up for the Distant Network Services.
Many places that we travel we can just crank up or Batwing antenna and watch the local news, but not everywhere. Currently we happen to be in North Platte, NE and if you don't get satellite, you don't get any Network programming at all. We are just overnighting here and I certainly wouldn't want to have to call anyone to get the programming necessary for today and then call again tomorrow to get Colorado Springs. With the DNS package I can always connect to the Network programming from NY and LA (DirecTV) or NY and San Fran. (Dish Network) no matter where I stop.

Bill has a very valid point for getting the All Am Direct channels. I usually watch channels like discovery, hgtv, espn, speed etc so I just never got around to use the DNS. If you do watch networks a lot I would definitely go with the All Am. If you are making trips to one location then back home, it's your decision if you want to call them each time.

Bill, I have a non related question for you. Can you recommend a stopover place in North Platte, NE? Will be passing through NE in a few weeks and am thinking of stopping there for the night. Thanks.

We are at the Wal-Mart Astoria for the night and it's great. Excellent accommodations for an over-night stay. We visited the Bailey Rail yard observation tower which over looks the worlds largest rail yard/sorting facility. It's a brief visit but interesting if you are into that kind of a thing.
There is a heavily treed RV park right off the interstate as well (Holiday Trav-L-Park) but we chose the open air so that we could get satellite TV and internet.

I know that Dish (and Directv) spot beam most, if not all, local stations. Are there local stations that are not spot beamed, however and cover the entire US? It would be less expensive to subscribe to Dish local stations then to All American especially when receiving HD stations.
