Now all you have to come up with is a way to do two hoppers, a Joey and a Super Joey. Dish told me this configuration is not allowed when I wanted to swap out a Joey in the S&B house with a Super Joey. I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Good luck -- I'm working on 6 Hoppers.

What should I replace the antenna switch that was plugged into the BOMB ( which I finally removed) with so I can switch on & off the local tv antenna? There was a small clear plastic plug in the back of the bomb! So glad I have that thing out of my life!
Thanks,
Paul

Ultimate Hopper RV

My DISH TV for RVs web page has various DISH equipment networks for a Single TV, Two TVs, Three TVs, etc.

But if price were no object, I wondered what the ultimate DISH RV network might look like.

Using Hoppers (not Joeys, Super Joeys, etc), I came up with single network of 8 Hoppers.

The "single network" means that each Hopper would have access to every other Hopper's recordings -- which is 16 terabytes (8 x 2TB) of recordings. Remember, you could also add at least 4TB of external storage (2, 2TB hard drives) to each Hopper for an additional 32 terabytes (8 x 4TB) for a grand total of 48 terabytes of recording space.

In addition, since each Hopper has 3 tuners, you would have 24 separate tuners at your disposal.

Finally, all 8 Hoppers could run off one Winegard Travler: The Ultimate Hopper RV.

PS - I ran all this past a DISH rep who said DISH would allow up to 7 Hoppers on one account -- 2 Hoppers leased through DISH + 5 Hoppers the customer would have to purchase. I have a feeling DiSH could be talked into 8 Hoppers.

Tx Scott, but 8 is way way too much -- 3 maybe, but not 8.

5/16/2015 Update

I corrected all the Super Joey network wiring diagrams.

As it stands now, it looks like the following:
  • For just a Hopper + Super Joey, you would only need to run 2 coax cables from a portable multi-LNB dish (1000.2, 1000.4) into the RV.
  • For a Hopper + Super Joey + 1, 2, or 3 Joeys, you would have to run 3 coax cables from a portable multi-LNB dish (1000.2, 1000.4) into the RV.

I thought you could get by with just running 2 cables in all cases, but I don't think that's correct.

Actually, it is correct. I updated the Three & Four TV Super Joey diagrams to show how.

Thanks to the guys on the DISH Forum at www.dbstalk.com for the info!

Problems with dish installers.
I had a Dish installer come to my house and install two hoppers and three joeys. All went well. Then I had the same installer go to our Monaco coach and install a hopper and a joey. That is he "attempted to install them. he obviously didn't understand the winegard traveler antenna. He just left the equipment and went home. I know nothing about the hopper, at all. So I called a local guy that does TV work for us . He found that the solo node was installed wrong at the antenna. He has it working but we are receiving tuner 1 and tuner 2 but not tuner 3. So I called Dish to come back out and troubleshoot. They REFUSED. Saying they no longer work on rvs. That their insurance didn't cover it. Their boss would not return my calls.
Can you believe this? So now I have to call an independent Dish contractor. My question to you folks is, is it a bad node, bad tuner, or perhaps a bad LNB. I am going to take a hopper from home to rule that out. Btw, we had a dish 622 HD receiver installed and working before this.

You're welcome here -- it just may take a few days.

Here's a diagram of a single Hopper RV install.

Note that the diagram assumes you also have a portable sat dish. If you don't, just ignore the portable dish & the AB switches.

Any number of things could have gone wrong . . . however, the RG6 coax from the Solo Node to your Hopper should be rated at 3 GHz.

Testing your home Hopper in your RV is a good idea -- it will at least eliminate one possible failure.

Generally, what RVers have found is that DISH (and DirecTV) do NOT want to work on RVs. You may get a local installer to do the deed (at least that's what I found), and what you seem to be doing. It's your best bet.

Thanks TechWriter
Yes we did put 3GHz RG6 between the solo node and the receiver. No joy. Tues I'll replace the home unit with th RV unit. Hope that's it.

You might want to order another Solo Node -- just in case.

My story: I wired my RV, bought all the components, and then called a local DISH installer.

This was 2012 when Hopper was pretty new.

The installer nearly broke my Solo Node because the Hopper connection on the node is very difficult to wire.

My story had a happy ending as the installer got it all to work.

The Super Home Node

Nope, this node is not for a Hopper -- it's used with a VIP 622, 722, or 722k receiver.

A Super Home Node (SHN) allows you to connect up to 3 SD (Standard Definition) TVs to a VIP 622, 722, or 722k using standard RG6 coax -- the stuff you'll typically find in an RV.

What's more is that a SHN combines an OTA (Over-The-Air) signal from a batwing with a 622, 722, or 722k's HOME DISTRIBUTION (TV2) signal. So one coax will carry both signals. Sweet.

Here's how: VIP 622, 722, 722k + Super Home Node.

Here's a source for the Super Home Node (SHN-24).
