Dish VIP211K will not pickup local channels

So i bought the Jack OTA antenna replacement head for the Sensar antenna, It took all of five minutes to install it on the mast. Had some weird issue though. I have Dish Network and use the VIP211K reciever. I plugged in the power supply, the antenna cable to the injector and then the injector to the OTA port on the back of the VIP211K, all per Dish instructions in the manual. However when scanning for locals it picks up nothing at all. I then disconnected the injector and plugged the antenna cable direct to the OTA port, nothing. So to test the install i hooked it up to the back of the TV (w/injector) and bingo I pickup 26 locals in my vicinity. Guess i'll have to call Dish, anyone seen this?

read from dn website, 211 requires a module to be installed for ota, which is sold separately. do you have that?

With the tailgater satellite antenna from Dish., we have to call and give a local address. The local channels are tight-beamed from the satellite and the receiver has to be re-set.

Also right from the manual,

CONNECTING AN OVER-THE-AIR ANTENNA

If you want to receive digital channels from an over-the-air antenna in addition to your dish
antenna programming, connect the over-the-air antenna to your dish antenna.

The OVER-THE-AIR ANTENNA IN connection on your receiver's back panel can be used

to receive and view programming on the TV from an over-the-air antenna.

Connect a VHF/UHF over-the-air antenna to the OVER-THE-AIR ANTENNA IN port. Peel

off the black sticker (found at the beginning of this

User’s Guide) and affix it to the

cable close to where it connects to the back of the receiver.

You can add local over-the-air channels to the receiver’s channels lists and assign

them network affiliations. Once you have done this, you can access the channels via
the Program Guide or the Browse Banner similar to accessing satellite channels.
Note

: The type of antenna required depends on the channels used by, and the locations

of, the local broadcasters for your area. Visit

www.antennaweb.org or contact a
professional installer to help you select a suitable antenna.

A module is not needed for a 211K, the module IS needed for a 922 or 722K. To the op, my guess would be a bad OTA tuner on your receiver. Call dish and they will send a replacement.

Did you run through the local channel scan procedure and store the result of that scan?
If it finds the local channels, and you store scan result, they will be highlited in yellow on the guide

That's the problem, it didn't find any channels! Yet hooked to the tv it finds 26 or so.

The very new ViP-211z will also need an external OTA device they are calling a dongle....but the 211k has it built-in.

For the OP's 211k, I agree that -IF- you have scanned for OTA channels and still do not have any, the the tuner could be bad. Call Dish for warantee replacement.

Best of luck

I would agree then, that your 211k receiver has a problem. Initiating the scan and storing the results is all that is required to receive OTA stations

I had trouble too when I first did this. It's important to set up the 211 like this:

Note: Ensure the Analog Type on the HDTV Setup menu (accessed
by MENU, System Setup, then HDTV Setup) is set to Offair.

After this step I got all the OTA channels.

I have the local antenna coming in separately with a coax right into the TV. But mine is set up so that is easy to do.

It is an alternative maybe for you and then the TV will just pick up all the locals and when you want satellite just switch back to your hdmi 1 or 2 or whatever......

Tried that as well and got nothing.

That's what i'm doing now, no big deal. Mainly wanted it to run through the dish box so i could use the signal meter built-in.
