Dish ViP722K DVR

We have a Dish 722 receiver in our S&B. It allows us to watch two different programs, watch one and record a second, or record two programs for playback later. We also have a Dish 322 receiver in our RV which allows us to watch two different programs but does not record.

We are going full time and would like to put the 722 in the RV. We have a Winegard HD 1000 satellite dish on the roof as well as a Winegard Carryout. (I know when we use the Carryout we can only watch programming from one satellite at a time.)

Is anyone using the 722 receiver in their RV? Is there any reason why this will not work? I have called Dish technical support and spoke with two different Customer Service reps as well as the local Dish representative. None of them knew anything about RV's but didn't think the 722 receiver would work in the RV.

I don't know of any reason why it won't work. I know I can hook it up and try it but I would rather not disconnect the 322 just to find out that the 722 will not work.

I appreciate the expertise on this forum. Thanks in advance.

The 722 will work in your RV. However, it can be damaged by vibration while driving the coach if left plugged in to a powered outlet. It is best to unplug it while driving.

I've called Dish today and was told the 211k was the only receiver that would work. I know others work, no idea why they tell me this 😡 I can attach a hard drive so I can use as a DVR, so that's really all I need...

I had a 922 I believe is the number in my MH until I went to a hopper system. Both of them are left on when travelling and i have not had a problem. The only problem I have ever had was the hopper in my stick and brick house lost the hard drive and it has set in the same spot from the time it was installed.

Get rid of the 722 and get a hopper you will be a lot happier

Thanks for Dish 722 responses

I appreciate all of you who took the time to respond to my question.

We used the 722 in our previous coach but only with our Carryout Satellite and we never used (that I remember) the DVR function. We moved it from the coach back and forth to the house. When we sold the old coach the 722 didn't fit in the cabinet of our new coach so we left it at home and got the 322 for the coach.

I just discovered that to top shelf of the cabinet, where the blue ray player is, is deeper than the bottom shelf so the 722 can fit on the top shelf and the blue ray will fit on the bottom.

I'll get it hooked up and try everything before I send the 322 back.

Thanks again for the responses.

The real key is "Antenna". The 722 will not be full functional without a open faced Dish antenna, none of covered dome units will allow full function. I finally gave-up trying to use the "Dual Tuner" functions of the 722, went with a 211K and external HD, and Carryout antenna. While this set-up has some drawbacks, gaining the ability to pause and rewind live programming makes it well worth it.

We have TWO 722k's in our mh. One for the bedroom and one for the living room. That gives us complete separation between the two tv's and allows us to record our own favorite programs. We do have the open faced Trav'ler antenna, but the 722s work without a flaw. I never unplug them until I'm ready to put them back into the house.

I remove them from the house with all separators, splitters, etc attached so that all I have to do is connect the antenna cable just like in the house. Both of our tv's in the coach are hdmi 1080s HD.

I use the 722 also love the dvr. It is wise to have it unplug during travels ,had to have one replaced. I use the second feed for outside tv or bedroom tv.

Let me suggest that you use additional ventilation in that cabinet -- 722 fans.
