Okay - I was able to adjust to the loss of local programming on DishNetwork while on the raod, but now they've dropped CourtTV . . . . no more COPS!
Wondering if anyone has advice for switching from DishNetwork to DirectTV:
1. Is DirectTV better?
2. Will DirectTV cost more?
3. What equipment changes are necessary?
(I have a single LNB portable dish and a Dish receiver in the motorhome; I have a fixed Dish 500 dual LNB and a Dish receiver at home --- I know the receivers won't work, but what about the dishes?)
--- by the way, I tried searching out some info on this topic, but didn't find what I needed ---

Just checked mine, still comes in on channel 204 here.
Their printed chart indicates it should be a part of the Top 60, The Top 120, and the Top 180 packages. It's not part of the DishFAMILY Entertainment Package.

If you want Court TV, Directv is better
You can get free hardware from Directv if you are going to switch so forget about trying to use your old dish stuff. When I made the move from Dish to Direct 5 or 6 years ago. I just re-pointed my old (DISH) dish to the Directv Sat at 101. Replaced my receiver and was good to go.
My current setup is a Sony A55 in the MH but will install a Directv R15-300 DVR with a Sonora Signal stacker / D-Stacker, this weekend. I've been very happy with Directv. Again, if you REALLY need Courtv, the answer is quite obvious.

Ahh - see how tricky DishNetwork is! While 204 WAS the station for CourtTV, that's not what is broadcasted on that channel since 01/01/2007. What you see is Biography programming. Check this very subtle message buried on their website:
http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/programming/missingc.../courttv/index.shtml
They haven't changed the name on their Channel Guide, though. You're getting fewer programming options for the same money!

OK, we rarely watch that channel and I didn't notice it was Biography programming, just that it said "Court" when I pressed my "info" button on 204. Gee-sh, that's sneaky.

They dropped the Court TV East Feed from their National Lineups the first week of January 07. I write the reporting software that tracks this and noticed the large subscriber base that it affected. These things are in a constant state of flux and are driven by the pursuit of advertising dollars.
Not sneaky just a big beast to keep straight and the programming guide updated. It is a lot more work than you might imagine.

I noticed you commented on the loss of national feeds on dish. Are you aware that you can geet the east/west coast network feeds with a RV waiver on your Dish receiver? The service is from a provider through Dish and costs the same as it was through Dish.

Haven't investigated the "mydistantnetworks" provider to get the east-west local feeds, but keep meaning to.
Before with Dish, I paid $5/month for such service --- I thought I saw the same service through this third party provider is $9/month . . . . did I really see that? Now costs nearly twice as much?

I believe that a some point you used to be able to pick one or more National feeds at $5/month each. The was rolled into an East and West feed by default for $9/month. That is the also the current service provided by All American.
