Has anyone installed a DLP type projector with a roll up screen.
I am thinking that a cabinet over my couch directing output to the oposing wall where a pull down screen might be mounted under a cabinet could be a good solution.
Only thing is these units run pretty hot so I'm not sure how good an idea it is.I could vent the cabinet but still the one's I used to use get darn hot.
There are a number of advantages. You get rid of the huge TV that takes up space. You have a unit that you could double for a Drive-In Theatre type setup in the right conditions. Maybe shoot the picture off a camping table onto the side of the coach.
It might be more durable and would certainly be a lot less wieght. Stow it away when not in use.
Whole thing shouldn't cost over $1,000.
What do you think?

I've got a HD setup like that at home. Our screen is 8' wide and it works great. Be sure you understand that the picture requires a room with subdued light and a special reflecting screen. The projector puts out a lot of heat and has a fan running all the time. Depending on how close it is to the seating, it could be a distraction and annoyance.

Yeah, it's not one of my brighter ideas.

Hey, I wasn't meaning to poo-poo the idea. I just wanted to point out a few things that we found with the setup that you might look hard at before you decide. Do your research and even check out a few displays then see if it'll work for you.
Good luck,
John

Friends of our have a very similar setup. I don't know the type or brand but the big screen thing can work quite well. They watch regular TV most of the time, but at night if they are going to watch a movie on TV or DVD they pull out the big screen and popcorn!

Perhaps you wouldn't mind asking them what projector they use and how they handle the heat from it?
Thanks for your reply. I haven't worked with a projector like that in years and was hoping they have dealt with the heat issue.
