Question DNS and Dish Pay-as-You-Go

Yeah, I'm back with more dufus questions, please. If you have Dish pay-as-you-go and pay for DNS service, can you still turn it off/on as needed? How does that work with the ~$10/month for the DNS? Does the DNS service turn off/on just like the Dish service? Also, does the paperwork for the DNS service stay on the account? Thanks in advance.

Sarah, I can't specifically answer your question about DNS billing, but I have to ask why do you want it? DNS gives you the network feed from New York or Los Angeles, at a monthly cost. On the other hand, Dish Pay As You Go provides local network stations at no charge. You just have to call and give them your current address (campground etc) and they turn on local programming. We haven't moved since we got Dish but I understand the range for local stations is about 100 miles then you call in and change the address. Other than being free, the benefit is that we get local news, weather and traffic instead of NY or LA news.

At this point we are simply trying to figure out which setup will work best for us, Bruce. Sounds like we don't need DNS at all.

Hopefully we can get the RV out of storage this weekend and try to get the Dish receiver set up. I hope we don't run into a big spaghetti-bowl wiring MESS. Ack.

HAD DNS for a bit, but found out just calling dish with current location works best for us so we get the local stations no matter where we are and the major shows are on at a reasonable time for our area
