I am ready to upgrade our cell phones. I had been planning on getting the Droid X from Verizon but now with 4g coming I am wondering if I should wait for a Droid 4g running on LTE? I guess I would be locked into the X for 2 years but I live in TN and they will probably not see 4g for at least 18-24 months. Any suggestions?

It all depends if you are in a 4G Market. It's going to take a while for 4G to catch up on Verizon's side I expect or that why I didn't buy into 4G here in the Myrtle Beach market. Would have loved to!

I didn't wait and bought the Droid X.

3G is fast enough on a phone for me.

I can see 4G for an air card for a computer, but I don't think it's that important on a phone.

I also bought the Droid X and am very glad I did. I had a Blackberry Storm and never did think it was all that productive. I find the Droid X to be a real tool and extremely useful. I will wait and upgrade my AirCard when LTE is available in more remote areas.

X2 on the droid X. I just saw a teaser on tv about how 4G is a lot of hype and not much content.

I just took the "free" Certified preowned phone offer.

I chose the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate (AT&T calls it Captivate)

Verizon is offering the preowned phones (used 1 to 5 days and returned) for free. i took them up on it.

The phone I received was completely packaged exactly like a brand new phone, it looks brand new, and does not have any blemishes on it anywhere.

You can't beat free.

I live in the Phoenix metro area, east valley. No 4G here either so much. And I don't look for it anytime soon. Don't matter, it is almost as fast as my laptop.

I went straight from the old style "dial a number and talk" cellphone to this Android beast. Has been a very interesting and somewhat very frustrating 3 days getting over the first hurdle "how do you do that?"

don't bother to wait on 4G, that is in the future before it becomes very prevalent.

Hello all

My wife and me got droid x phones last saturday. As already stated they are fast. I imagine my eyes couldn't keep up with a 4g. Anyway today I learned how to tether the droid to my PC. and use the PC. Received a phone call while playing on the PC answered it without loosing my place on the pc. I got the $30.00 unlimited plan for the droid so tethering shouldn't cost me a dime more. Verizon doesn't support this method but what the heck. I got this idea from the computer geeks on FMCA forum. Sent them an email today asking if the got caught by Verizon and increased their monthly bill. Their response was NO even told me that one month they used 11GB.

Had to try it, and it works.

Dennis-

I got the Global Droid X in early December. It's got a steep learning curve for me - like I go to the store every other day to ask "how do you---"? I couldn't even figure out how to put new contacts into it- ugh.

They told me I can change/upgrade my phone in one year, but of course that adds a two year contract. I'll probably get the I-Phone then when things settle down. I looked at the tethering bit also. I can't drop my unrestricted minute plan, $60/mo which I got grandfathered into from Alltel.

The one thing we hate with our new phones, my Droid X and the brides new flip top, is that they only ring 3 times before going to voice mail-. The folks at Verizon say it can't be changed at all- unless we stop our voice mail. I can't get this Droid out of a pocket and use the two hands needed to answer this Droid X while driving- It would take 5-6 rings to do that, for me-

Oh, they gave me a free Mi-Fi mini router- This thing is cool, and its "secure". It's the size of a credit card, only a little thicker. I can use it for up to 5 computers within 30 feet! I think the reason it is free is because they figure more computers would burn up more internet time, but that doesn't bother me because of my unlimited time plan. I had to cancel the 'ole plug in air card but this Mi-Fi is great, a good upgrade move for me. I re-junevated my little 'ole Dell and we're both on the Net now simultaneously.

As far as 4G goes, I stay away from big cities as far as I can-. They are not in my lifestyle plans.

It would be very wise to get a droid x. Verzion is going to make their network suck once the Iphone is live.

I would not base my decision on 4g, it is very limited now and as you pointed out, your contract will be about up when it is avail. On a more wide spread bases. At this point it is more of a sales gimmick. With no universal standard, anyone can claim to have 4g.

Dennis,

I don't think that is standard for Verizon. I know that my phones all ring about 5 times before they hit the Voice Mail. I have 5 of them on our Family Plan, and they all ring a long time before going to Voice Mail.

There are apps that you can install to get rid of that stupid slider screen to unlock the phone.

go to the Android Market and install

No Lock that has an icon that says Unlock and put that icon on your home page. Once you unlock the screen, it will stay unlocked until you power the phone off.

there is another app named Screebl Lite that you can get here:
https://market.android.com/details?i...s.screebl.lite

What that one does is prevent the screen from blanking out on you until you are ready for it too. You set the length of time you want the screen to stay on.

There is another app that I have found to be invaluable, especially when wearing a BT headset while driving, or while working at my office desk. It is called AutoAnswer. It can be configured to work like you want it too, not the way someone decides you ought to have it.

I would vote on the X too. 4G is going to take several years to completely roll out. Unless you're in an area that has it soon it doesn't make sense to wait for it. We got a Droid X for XMas and are very happy w it. It's perfect for our cross country travels.

Hi AZgl1500,

I put the "no lock" on my Droid today. I like the unit much better already-.

I stopped in to a different Verizon store today and asked them about changing our phones to add more rings. The young fellow said it can't be done. He sez it's in the network. Call *611. I had already done that.

We don't use a Blue Tooth so the "auto off" I don't think I need.

Thanks for the recommendations--

Max H

I too thought 4g would take time to roll out. In Destin,Fl it is here. I was playing with it at Verizon getting about 5mb download speeds, pretty cool. Thinking about dropping my home cable and upgrading to 4g.
