Several years ago someone recommended Delaware as a good place to get an E-Z pass for the RV since they charge by axle and motorhomes pay the same as autos. Not sure if that's still true BUT they are offering free transponders to new accounts for the next couple of days.

You don't need to live there to get them.

FREE Transponder Press Release

Thanks for the heads up.

I ordered 2, one for the MH and one for the car. Only the first one was free. 2 for the price 1 isn't bad.

Had to order 2 as the classes were not the same. MH goes under 2 axels like a car but is then further broken down by 6 tires and vehicle weight over 7,000 lbs.

Not sure if DE is the same, but for the PA EZPass, we just move them between cars and register each vehicle with them. You don't actually need separate transponders. We easily transfer the transponder between my motorcycle, cars and coach. All the EZPass gates have scales, so you are charged acordingly.

Must be different in DE.

From the EZ Pass FAQ page: E-ZPass Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use my transponder in other vehicles?
A: Yes, you may transfer a transponder between vehicles as long as they are of the same vehicle class. For example, a transponder from a pickup truck can be used on an SUV, but not on a tractor-trailer. There are penalties for using a transponder in a different vehicle class.

Yup, PA must be different. They allow moving the transponder as long as the vehicle is registered on the EZPass site. Below is what hey say about using the transponder from your car on your RV.

37. Can I use my transponder in my RV?

If you have an RV, with a gross vehicle weight over 15,000 pounds, you will need to open a commercial account. If you have an RV that has a gross vehicle weight of 15,000 pounds or less, you may add it to your personal E-ZPass account. Please be prepared with your weight, tires and axels when calling to add an RV to your account. You may require a separate transponder programmed for the specific weight class of the RV.

We used to get free replacements when the old one's batteries died.

No more.

However, driving 70 MPH thru the high speed EZ Pass lanes seems to make it worthwhile.

Be aware that even if the transponder is "sold" by the axle, the toll charge you incur will depend on the State you are using it in. We have Maryland transponders and they are all two axle ones because that's what our MH and cars have. However, when we ran the length of the PA turnpike from I-70 to West Chester we were charged ~$51 which was based on the weight of the vehicle, not the number of axles because that's how PA does it.

Where is the best place to place my EZ Pass in the MH. I know where it goes in the car but not sure where to put it in the MH. Would like it up high out of my sight when driving.

Mine is at the bottom left of the window...out of sight and next to a Sunpass for driving in Florida. Have had it there for three years and never a problem going thru the tolls.

LI Mac - off topic somewhat, but you mentioned Sunpass - Does EZPass work down in Florida? Why I'm asking is that we went to Disney's Camp Wilderness in Decembe 2010 and we drove on through the SunPass gates with just an EZPass - never received a citation, so assumed it works, but not entirely sure.

The EZ Pass web site doesn't list FL. Sure would be nice if all toll systems got together and used one pass.

I guess they didn't pick up my plate then since I never got a citation. I'll have to go back and check my transactions to confirm if I was charged a toll.
