I have noticed that some campgrounds are qualifying the WiFi offering with statements such as "available at the campground store" and spotty reception at some sites". I don't need it for business so I have few complaints other than, as you say, a lack of full disclosure.

Lots of prior threads about disappointment with campground WiFi. You can pretty much count on the fact that campgrounds do not have a sufficient Internet connection to service anything more than a single family, let alone a whole park. That assumes you are in their office where their wired Internet connection terminates. Then you can count on the fact that they are probably not able to invest in the proper wireless infrastructure to provide a solid bubble of WiFi signal over the park to even give you a good wireless connection back to their insufficient wired connection.
Forget about having a good WiFi experience 99% of the time from park provided Internet. If you are expecting and demanding good Internet you have to invest in your own cellular or satellite data plan, manage your data usage and accept the fact that there isn't cellular everywhere.

I was taught not to complain about "Free" stuff. If the internet was that important to me I wouldn't rely on Free services

Although this has been true of many campgrounds, we have been finding more and more where this is not the case. I think that smart CG owners are beginning to realize that they can capitalize on having high quality wifi and can use that as a discriminator relative to parks that don't offer it.
The "older generation" RVer who uses the internet just for checking email is rapidly being replaced by a generation for whom the internet is an essential aspect of life. RV park owners who are good business people will understand this and will act accordingly.

Certainly not if I "demand" an Olympic sized pool to meet my needs.

Since there are obviously many folks looking for a real broadband WiFi experience it would be good if someone started a sticky documenting CG's that are providing high quality Internet.

I would look at free wifi as a selling point for the campsite. I wouldn't stay at the ones that didn't have it. Not any more. The wifi has been so bad.

I think we all know that CG internet is not great. They are a campground not an internet provider. Their systems are minimal, designed for checking e-mail or searching for something. They may not meet everyones expectations of what internet service should be. However they do provide a service. If it not what you need then use a mobil hot spot. I don't feel like they are misleading or false advertising. Just sayin'!!!!

In the parks I was in, it was not usable. Kind of like a pool with no water.

ONE of the issues is that what is "usable" for you is not "usable" for me. A "quality experience" is based solely on the users expectations being met. And that is not possible for all users all the time. So the campground owner is in a no-win situation. No matter how good the wifi is it will not meet someones expectations. I try to manage expectations as well as I can. But it proves to be impossible no matter how you approach it. I have a minimum of 3mbps at every site and up to 20mbps at about one third of the sites. Seven access points. And streaming restricted. So if you want to do non-streaming browsing you should have a reasonable experience most of the time. But many people want to watch TV over the Internet because they do not want to "pay for satellite". Those people would tell you that they have a VERY POOR experience.

The other issue is what is essential. Me being able to check email, browse the web, perhaps download a new eBook, check the weather at my next destination, do some banking are essential to me. I can do all of this with or without free wifi at the campground. Watching a tv show or movie over wifi doesn't seem to me to be an essential service level that I expect a campground to support.
Complaining about a campground's free wifi not having sufficient capacity so one can run their on the road business seems odd to me.

Jack, you are so wrong. At most cg's, I can't even run a speed test without it bogging down. When I get a reading, it's general in the .1 - .3 mb download speeds nowhere near what you claim to supply at each site. I have DishTV so I don't stream any tv. I have Sirius/XM radio through Dish, so I never stream music either. With most video sites, like YouTube, I don't even bother to try. I am on Facebook and this forum, not much else. I would like to stay at your park and see what I get on the speed test.
I love Dallas's analogy of the pool. Just imagine that cg pools have less then a foot of water in them. Or maybe the showers have a trickle of water, or the washing machines only do the wash cycle? Sewer hookup only allows a gallon per day. Now how would you feel about that?
Offering "free wifi" that does not work is still false advertising. And everyone who puts up with it and gives the cg's excuses, will never help improve the quality because you are settling for inferior service.
At RVParkReviews, as I stated before, I will deduct points on their score for this. Whether you care or not, someone will pass up the cg, as I have done many times, for inferior service and facilities.
Did not mean to start any arguments, just don't understand how people can put up with this. You ARE paying for this in the price and not getting your money's worth.
