I had posted that my GPS would show me how many minutes away a nearby waypoint was. I did not program any destination, just turned on the map. Garmin CS wrote to tell me how to turn off my "Trends". This is a built in default feature that "thinks" it know where I am headed.
To disable myTrends, you need to:
1). Select Tools
2). Select Settings
3). Select Navigation
4). Select Automobile
5). Select NuRoute
6). Select myTrends
7). Select Disabled
8). Select Save
Hope this helps others,
John

Back to paper maps, common sense and Kentucky windage.

I really enjoy using my GPS. When one gets a new model, we sometimes need help understanding how to use some of the new features. I think that Garmin has a great Customer Service group and they are very helpful. Just how many "paper" maps do I need to carry, for every little street in the US and Eight million + POI?

Just the ones you need to go where you want to go. A GPS is wonderful device for sending someone who doesn't know how to get where they want to go to a place they never intended to arrive.

Exactly - A GPS should be used as a guide only - common sense should prevail. Case in point... Canadian Couple Goes Missing After Relying on GPS - Mobiledia

You are right there, Keninvic. In the manual after it says, "Turn unit on", it doesn't say anything about, turn brain off. It takes quite a long time from when there is a change in a road or street, until it shows up to the map producers. Then it has to be incorporated into the GPS information and downloaded into your unit. That is why you need to keep your brain turned on.

On a more serious note. We pull a 40' fifth wheel with and F550. So we use the 'truckers atlas' supplemented with a state map as we travel in each state. Works for us.
