Welcome New To RVing - we're glad you joined us!

I have the Nuvi 660 - which I assume you are talking about. The screen is definitely bright enough for day or night. And yes, you can request direct or scenic routing (may not be Garmins names for them but the result is the same).

I have not found any shortfalls. I really like the unit.

I bought a L.G.735 I like it does a fine job also but it also the first G.P.S. out of 3 I have had I found user friendly Just Me ? But some are hard to program not this one and it talks to Me as I drive down the road.I have taken it on 3 short trips so far and it was 100% on in Canada and the U.S. Bushman

I just got my Garmin Nuvi 660 yesterday...what a great improvement over my 2610, which I loved! This thing even works IN THE HOUSE somehow...nowhere near even a window..It has a different interface than the older technology and the screen is very readable and sensitive. I recommend getting an extended warranty because of the sensitive screen....great unit that I look forward to getting lost with

I've had a Nuvi 680 for a month now and really like the unit. I agree, an extended warranty is a plus. IF you buy a Ford backed Garmin Nuvi 360 or 680 it comes with a 3 year warranty versus the typical Garmin 1 year warranty. Here is the promo from Ford:
The Garmin Nuvi 680 and the Garmin Nuvi 360 are official Ford Licensed Accessories. Ford has partnered with Garmin to offer these unit with a full 3-Year Warranty from Garmin compared to the standard 1-Year warranty offered by other retailers! The 3-Year Garmin manufacturer warranty certificate is included in the box. The warranty is administered by Garmin, not Ford Motor Company. These Ford Licensed Accessory Garmin units feature a Ford splash screen (which can be changed), Ford dealerships are featured on a point of interest (POI) icon (the custom Ford POI can be removed), a Free Trial of the SaversGuide® that offers discounts at over 45,000 FV Entertainment® listed businesses, and a year of MSN Direct with live traffic updates and weather updates.

If you are considering a Nuvi 360 or 680 for a Ford accessory model with the 3 year warranty, Look here . The price from this Ford vendor is very good. Word to the wise, do not buy any NUVI now or used on eBAY.

Recommend you buy one of these protectors for your display. This protector is very nice compared to many others I have seen. Once applied you really don't realize it is in place. While I believe the NUVI screen is a quality screen, a protective cover is insurance so to speak.. Look here Fits perfectly!

I have a NUVI 680 which is a 660 with an added feature or two. The brightness is adjustable and so it the speaker volume. I am very pleased with both volume and brightness levels.I adjust the brightness way down at night. If you want to learn LOTS from other Nuvi owners, I suggest you Go here.

Can tell you I am not thrilled with the MSN feature of my Nuvi 680. I'm in a fringe reception area so MSN does not work while I'm around home. No bigge though..

Are they battery powered only or is there a cigar lighter attachment? I would like to be able to swap vehicles easily.

I currently have a Kenwood unit but it draws huge battery power (It is also a car stereo radio/CD player). The radio inhales and the GPS map is 5 years old but costs $400 to update, no discounts.

Hamguy,
I also have had a NUVI 660 for almost a year now. The 660 shares Garmins top of the line technology and operating system. The operation is the same as their 7" screen unit and many other top units.
The 600 series NUVI comes with AC and DC plugs along with assorted mounting gear. There is a USB plug included for connection to a PC.
I enjoy the simplicity of this unit and the traffic warning system along with appropriate routing.
This unit was purchased to replace a 2620 that failed while in Colorado this past summer. The old unit has since been repaired. The large screen and convienient shape, light weight and easy disconnect make for a truly portable and easily secured unit. I recommend it highly.
