I've been looking at the Garmin DEZL LMT GPS. I'd be interested in how it compares to the earlier Garmin trucking model, or to the competing truck GPS models.

I think TomTom has a truck-ready GPS in UK and Europe. Does anyone know if they will be releasing a US model soon?

Lastly, are there any RV/truck friendly online GPSes, for the iPod, Android, Blackberry or PC?

Thanks,
littlec

Recently got my hands on a Garmin Dezl 560 LT in Europe. (without lifetime maps)

There's quite a bit to say about this Navigator / GPS. From my point of view it's a bit of a hybrid - mixing truckers navigator (like the soopper) with a RV and Passenger Car GPS.

So far i like it - though it's a first release and has had 3 software version updates over the past 2 months. Best thing is the wide screen and loud speaker - so it can be seen and heard in a large driver cabin with a big engine. Also it's easy to use it in a car - which i think is a big plus, switching to car mode.

I wrote a few things about it, have a look:

Garmin Dezl 560LT truck navigation

Cheers!
Arno

Thanks Arno! Looks promising, I think I'll cash in my retirement savings and try it out. If I learn anything useful, I'll be sure to share it with the group.

With the exception of the input for a rear view camera and the claim of a very loud volume, I don't see any obvious differences between this and the Garmin 465T we've had for 6 months. The truck features are useful but the data doesn't cover all roads so the unit can't always help you avoid problems. Furthermore, on ours there's no way to tell it we are a non-commercial RV and are not subject to truck restrictions. Recently, it had a fit because I was driving on a road that had a truck restriction even though it was a nice, wide road and wasn't restricted because it was inadequate for the size vehicle I was driving.
