It's time to replace our 5+ year old Garmin Nuvi. After looking on their website, I'm overwhelmed at the number of different models/features.

What are you folks using and why?

I still have my 2005 2720 and don't see anything better on the market so I am hanging on as long as possible. The Rand McNally unit looks interesting with a 7" version coming out next month.
You are correct, there simply are too many Garmins available to make an easy choice!

Using my Ford nav, but still take my nuvi 550 as it is more accurate than the nav. It keeps trying to detour my off of the main (secondary) road across county roads as it has "incomplete map data".
Also use Android phones (google maps).
Plan on picking up Rand McNally trucker map for clearances.
Father uses Co Pilot and Rand. (Full timing)

Still using my trusty garmin 7200 with lifetime updates and low clearance POI's loaded in.
I swapped the roof antenna cable from the Factory installed unit which I removed from the motorhome, to the 7200. Gets awesome reception.
I too, am intrigued with the new Rand McNally unit, but I think I'll save the money for a pair of Roadmaster sway bars.

The DW & I both use Garmin Nuvi's. Not sure of the model, but they both have lifetime traffic update, & the newer one has Lifetime free map updates. Bought the newest one about 2 months ago for $130 from Amazon.com I think they both are the 1290 series. They work fine.

We use a Garmin Nuvi that is about 4 or 5 yrs old. The charge port on the circuit board broke and they fixed/replaced it for $89. I had to load the new maps into it
which I had purchased over the internet, but it works like it is brand new. I believe they just swap out the board and send it back to you. Turn around time is about a week.

Just had to replace my old Nuvi 600 series and went with a 1450LMT. Has a nice 5" screen and is packed with features. So far I have been very pleased with it and I believe Best Buy has them on sale this week for $169.

I agree the choice is overwhelming, so we rely on our daughter. She is fairly hard on her GPS units - she seems to drop them frequently and has had to replace hers several times. If we like the new one she gets, that's the model we consider when we decide it's time for us to upgrade.

We now have a Nϋvi 1450. We upgraded last December shortly after our daughter got one for the following reasons:
1. The maps on our old unit (can't remember what model) were getting outdated anyway.
2. The 1450 has a 5" screen as opposed to a smaller screen on our old Nϋvi.
3. The 1450 is much faster acquiring satellites and loading maps.
4. The 1450 has Lane Assist that shows which lane to be in for major intersections and exchanges.
5. We liked the fact the 1450 has different categories for the favorites you save, plus you can create your own categories.
6. The 1450 shows speed limits as well as your actual speed. Our old unit only showed the speed limit.
7. Live traffic info is available for an extra subscription fee, but since we are retired, we didn't go with that because we can usually avoid heavy traffic situations.
8. Sam's Club had the Nϋvi 1450 for only $120 when we bought it last year.

Lots of times, your choice will be heavily influenced by which model has the most features you want at the best price at the time you're ready to buy.

As with any GPS, it is a good idea to review the route before blindly accepting it - especially if you're driving an RV.

Send a message via Skype™ to lastminute
I'm still using my nuvi 1370 and it works very well.
