Genie 2 conversion

Posting I hope to the correct forum:

I bought a new 4K-HDR tv, and I am upgrading my DTV receiver to the new Genie 2. It will be installed with 2 geni's for the older LCD's in the house.

In the past I am able to take my HR44 out to the trailer and watch from there with my portable tripod swm antenna. I installed a power supply in the RV to make the connections easier.

Will I be able to do this with the new receiver? I think I might have to buy a new power supply to install in the RV for the Genie 2, correct? Does the old power inserter work with the new server?

In the past I've asked the DTV tech's, but they are not very helpful. I think they are under orders to avoid these installs, and direct the customer to corporate.

Any help in this is appreciated.
Thanks.

So I called DTV and they stated it would not work without wifi to connect the server.

So I canceled the install. Oh well. I tried.

DTV gave you bad info. The Genie 2 needs wifi only for “on demand” and 4K programming use. I use the Genie 2 along with a mini genie and am never connected to wifi while in the RV. It works fine. Further, there is no need for the power inserter with the upgraded Genie.

I find the help given by their techs varies a lot.

Their skill levels appear to be very low, putting me on hold while they check with someone, etc, etc. They don't use cheat sheets either in my opinion. It got worse when ATT took over.

I am going to forget about the new Genie for now....I would have to take a mini with me as well so I can connect the TV.' there doesn't appear to be too much programming anyway with 4K or Dolby.

Thanks.

I think (not 100% sure) that the Genie 2 only acts as a server. It has no HDMI output. All output is wireless to a client or DTV ready TV. Perhaps that's what they meant by Wifi to connect to the server.

FWIW, 4K requires a reverse band LNB.

The Genie 2 contains a built-in version of what had been called the Wireless Video Bridge which is the device that sets up a 5 GHz proprietary wifi network in your home which is used to send video to your TV's from the Genie. You can actually see this network on laptops and other devices that can receive 5GHz wifi but they can't connect to it.
