I have moved 1 of my boxes to the motorhome and now it doesn't have local channels. I am locked on 119 and can only use 1 satelite at a time.
How do I get the locals with this setup? Do they broadcast them on a different satelite than 119, 110?
Thanks for the help

I'm not totally sure, but I think Dish uses 129 for locals for western US customers.

My locals come in on 110.

If you are out of your home area by about 50 miles, you won't get them anyway unless you have Dish Nertwork change your location

I can't speak for a MH install, but I can mention how to do what you want. All my receiving sites are fixed at Houses or setup once Bookdocking.

I scrounge and hookup 1 LNB Dishes out of the trash. The LNB is the translucent white, round pickup at the end of the Dish arm. The trick on Dishes is to use a Carpenter's Level and ensure the mount just below the Dish is vertical, vertical, vertical. I measure and adjust it on the South-facing side, and on the East or West side. That verticality is essential to this trick, and any Dish install.

I adjust my Dish mechanically to pull in Sat 119. Snug, but don't totally lock down, the bolts. Watch the 'Installation' Screen on your TV and get the 119 Signal readout as high as you can. The Audio output is intended to tell you, by a higher tone, when signal strength is higher or lower. Mark the best position on the top of the vertical mount with a Felt Tip Pen to have a reference point, and one you can return to.

Sat 110 for Local programming [Denver anyway] is CCW to the left about 3/8". I used this back-and-forth, non-automated adjustment for years. Satellites above the Equator appear as a rainbow 'arc' here in the N. Hemisphere. So, 110 and 119 [and other Sats] don't just vary left-to-right; also up and down slightly. However, the correct Elevation adjustment [~40 degrees above the Horizon here in Denver] 'averaged' by you between the 2 Sats will allow you to pick up both Satellites without any further Elevation adjustment. Any signal strength number above about 35 is enough.

I watch only 'normal' resolution programming; not HD. HD MIGHT be on Sat 129, as mentioned above. Elevation -> Azimuth adjustments for various Sats are on the Installation Screen, depending on which Zip Code you enter. 'Skew' adjustments - East -> West 'tilt' above the Horizon - are made on multiple LNB arms where up to 3 Satellites are being picked up simultaneously. A Dish Switch Box used to automatically change between 1 LNB at a time, depending on which channel is selected. These setups are MUCH harder to install, even for the Pros. I've done it; it's painstaking, due to much less forgiving adjustments req'd. Another install w/a separate Dish is used to pick up a far West Sat when Int'l or other programming is purchased.

Local programming is sent down from >22,000 miles above the Equator on 'Spotbeams'. They cover multi-State areas, but not the whole Country. Contrary to what's mentioned above, I use my relocated Bedroom Receiver to pick up Local programming ~250 miles West of Denver. No problem. MH movement and Dome adjustments, etc., are not Rocket Science, but I haven't worked with them. Sometimes, moved Receivers 'lose' programming. Once you've made the adjustments above and you know you're locked on to, say, Sat 119, call Customer Service [in India] and have them 'ping' your Receiver to turn it back on. Simply say it's been off and stored for awhile.

You may be out of range of the spotbeam for the local channels,

Assuming you are parked on your house lot.. Your locals may be on 119 or on 110,, For example Detroit is on 110.. The distant network stations are on 119 however, as is Los Angles locals.

NOTE: as someone said, when you pull off your lot you quickly can leave the spot beam,, What, you ask is a spot beam? Think of a stage, on the floor of the state is a big map of the US, the spotlight is on the star as he sings his solo standing on the roof of your house (Well, your neighborhood) on the map.. You move out of the spot.

You are in the dark.. Period.

You can subscribe to DNS (Distant network service) Via ALL American Direct Communications LLC.. HOWEVER... A house account such as yours does NOT qualify for that service. This does not mean they won't give it to you.. It just means they should not by law and Dish has already gotten in trouble for doing it.. Which is why you have to get it from All American Direct Communications LLC

Our spot beam is good for up to about 250 miles, then we loose local. We'll loose HD first, the SD a little further out. We are on Dish Network

Thanks for all the info! We are now full timing (sold house) and i was wondering if dish network would honor the moving benifit for a motorhome? I haven't called them yet but thought maybe someone has tried this already and would give me some info.

There are no domes (for the RV market) that have more than one LNB in them.

I am 244 miles from my "home base" and appear to be right on the edge of my local spotbeam. When it is cloudy, the local channels do not come in very well.

I have been told that I would have to call Dish network and have my local changed to another area...I haven't tried it though.

BTW, I have the three LNB dish.

just call them and give them the city and state you ae in. Do not change your billing (unless you want to) address, just change your "home" address. They can make the change in 10 minutes. We do it all the time where ever we stop. No problem at all

When you call, tell them you want to change the "service" address.
