I got a new Dell and the touch pad when using it makes the text size go larger and smaller. I got it set on 125% and when moving the cursor around the next thing I know it up to 175% or down to 75%. How to stop this? It does not do it when using a external mouse.

Try opening the Control Panel (Start button -> Settings) and double-click on the Mouse icon. There should be settings there for the pad.

Assuming you have WIndows 7, a "two finger tap" on the touch pad anywhere on the page will start the zoom in that you describe. Another two finger tap will return to normal operation. So, you are probably accidentally doing the 2 finger tap. This feature is explained at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...etter-together

So be careful that you are using only 1 fingertip when you tap the touch pad. ALso, if you are "resting" other fingers on the touchpad, you might try changing the "sensitivity" setting for the mousepad so that more pressure is needed to recognize a tap.

I have a Dell Studio lap top running Windows 7 and I have the same problem, it drives me nuts.
The user manual that came with the thing showed how to make it happen but not how to stop it.
Stay tuned some one will solve it.

Just forget the stupid touch pad. The gormless twit that invented it should be boiled in oil. If you get a netbook, it's even worse because the pad is only about half the size as a full-size laptop.

It only took us a day after we got the netbook to switch over to a small-size cordless USB mouse. The one we got is a Dynex. We'd NEVER go back to the touch pad. It's just wasted keyboard space for us.

The USB receiver is about the same size as a thumb drive. The mouse has a storage compartment for the receiver which automatically shuts the mouse batteries off when it's stored. The mouse also has a power switch to save battery life when not being used.

I don't remember the price, but I'm sure it was less than $30. We got it at our local Best Buy.
