Has anyone had experience with a GPS that r made for RV 's and trucks I was thinking of purchasing one but a friend that has one says it is not good and he uses just his I phone! Don't want to spend cash for one if a regular one is just as good?

You might take what your friend says with a huge grain of salt. There are many makes and models out there. I use the Garmin RV 760LMT, which has a 7" screen and suction cup mount. Mounted low on the side window, it's big, easy to see and out of the way.

We use a Tom Tom and are quite happy with it.

I also use my Android cellphone GPS but like the Tom Tom better.

Our Tom Tom is the cheap one from Walmart. Works fine.

There have been quite a few threads on the various GPS units. There are many methods for navigation all with their pros and cons. Smartphones are one way people like to navigate, the biggest problem there is areas with no coverage. The smaller GPS units are fine for basic navigation, but you won't get some of the RV specific assistance. Then you have the larger models which can help you avoid low clearance areas, etc. It is up to you to figure out what features you want and what price you are prepared to pay.

I use the Rand McNally RVND7710. There are still some issues with it that the factory is supposedly working on, but I am pretty happy with it. Of course, the new model is the RVND7720.
