I'd like to add GPS to our new MH and wondering about the pros & cons of a stand alone system vs using a laptop w/ maping software & GPAs connected... any experiences or comments - good or bad either way???
I'm leaning towards the laptop & connected handheld GPS unit as
1) - I already have a (older) handheld Garmin GPS
2) - planning on adding a laptop as soon as WIndows Vista is ready to ship
3) - I'm also a boater and figure I can do the same w/ GPS, laptop & navigation software while boating

Thanks in advance

It's a tough decision. I've also had the laptop gps setup, but I didn't like it that much. You always have to wait for the laptop to boot up, as well as have a good location for the laptop. There are however, some pretty good pc-based gps software choices.

Personally I like the new generation of stand alone gps units. I'm waiting until the prices drop a little bit and will be purchasing the Garmin 7200. This is a large 7" high resolution color display, which makes it very easy to see. It's pretty good sized but ends up being just right for a motorhome. It's probably a bit too big for a car or even a pickup truck dash though.
