I was ready to exchange my Christmas gift Cobra 7750 for the Rand McNally 7710. After reading the 7710 post not sure what to do, has anyone used the Cobra 7750 for Professional Drivers? Cobra has the RV setting but very little info in the box, no book or instructions.
I've used an old simple Garman and it gets me there but thought the larger screen would be helpful. Lot of cash for something that may not be a hugh improvement over what I have.
Help please......

I use the next generation Garmin the Nuvi 1350LM. I bought it on sale at TRS. LM is neat because my computer tells me when there are new map updates available and they are free for a lifetime.

We've been using the RM7710 which is specifically designed and programmed for RVers and their needs. Extensive RV specific routing options (2 lane blacktop or freeway or tollway?) plus RV specific POIs. Seven inch screen is very viewable in our motorhome. Plus many RV check lists, scenic routes, and interactive features (multiple trip odometers) have proven our choice to be a good one.

I am a truck driver and have used a cobra 7700 and I had a rand mcnaly for 2hrs than returned it and bought a PC Miler. The rand mcnaly has several good features , Like it shows the posted speed limit plus your current speed. but like the cobra you are forced to use the routing that the gps selects even if you do not like that route. They have a multi route feature but I do not like using it . I prefer and use a PC Miler on a daily basis. It has alot of info and you can set waypoints to make it go the route you want. I know the routes I want to go and use it mainly to track remaining miles , ETA and current location. I first bought the cobra and now have it as a back up in case the Pc Miles goes down.

I just ordered a Magellan1700 today. I'll let you know when I give it a whirl. We have about 20+ Garmin Nuvi's at the company and they are great. I was looking for a bigger screen also..but just didn't want to risk the xtra dollars for something that may not be all that different than the nuvi.

I have used garmin for years. Saw the Rand Mcnally 7710 and bought it. It is SLOW! the screen is virtually unreadable in sunlight. It is not easy to use as it is not intutive. Used it for two short trips boxed it up and retuned it. They have to fix the screen resolution and improve the unit overall b-4 I reconsider getting another one. ed

I used my 7710 on a trip from STL to KC with several stops for work, and also a trip from STL to Arlingtin , tx over CHRISTmas. I have no complaints.

I am a long time Garmin user and recently made a 1600 mile trip running the 7710 along with a Garmin with the latest map update. While going through Las Vegas even though both units indicated the proper exit to take, I missed it. The 7710 was much faster and more accurate in recalculating to get me back on route.
It is very easy to get the 7710 to follow any route you desire by adding way points, just as you can with a Garmin unit.
I will admit the screen is not a bright as a Garmin, but I have mine mounted on the driver's side window angled in toward me, and I really haven't had a problem with any lack of screen visibility.
I some how screwed something up when loading some custom POIs on the 7710. Rand's tech support was very easy to get a hold of, and spent an hour on the phone with me to fix my problem.

It's been noted elsewhere, but beware of the 7710 docking software if you
own a Mac. I installed it under Leopard and Lion with similar results; the
utility always starts when I boot up the system, whether I want it to or not.
Then I must "force quit" it to get it to terminate. On my Lion machine I
began having problems with Firefox immediately after the docking software
installed. I had to un-install the software and re-install Firefox! This needs
to be fixed before I'll consider the GPS "package" to be complete.
I agree that the display can be hard to see in direct sunlight. Other than
that I like the unit itself a lot.

Thank you for your insight. I returned the Cobra as no one commented on it.
