GPS Garmin RV 760 vs Good Sam ND7726

Hi all,

I am in the market for a GPS for my motorhome. I see that the Garmin does not have propane for one of the parameters and the Good Sam does. I have propane and for those who also have are you finding the Good Sam gps a better choice?

Thanks,

Stuart

We have the Garmin 760 DEZL version which is the one normally for truckers. You can also use it for RV's and cars. It does have the hazard materials restrictions for RVs and truckers. Most hazard restrictions are turned off if you use it in car mode. It was the same price for the 760 RV and the 760 DEZL the last time I looked.

The Good Sam GPS is really the Rand McNally GPS. Do a Google search to read reviews on the Rand McNally GPS.

Personally, I have the Garmin RV760 and it is head & shoulders above the Rand McNally unit.

WRT propane restrictions, there are only a few located in the entire country mostly in the East where there are tunnels with LPG restrictions.

In regards to propane restrictions, could you find these on the web and therefore just have a list of them?

Every few years we go to a truck stop and pick up the newest truckers road atlas just to have information on not only the propane restrictions but anything else that might restrict a road for as large as the RV is.

You could probably find them in a commercial truckers book.

There are so few of them that I don't worry about it AND the DOT will warn you with signs in plenty of time to choose an alternative route.

If the propane restriction is a big issue for you get a free PIO file, load to the Garmin and you have it propane for FREE. PIO= points of interest There are also tons of files for everything a person might want from sports to hobbies to hazards to services to almost anything anyone could be interested in.

Unfortunately there is no convenient POI file available from the POI Factory that is specific to LPG Restrictions.

I would see if you could build a custom avoidance into your RV760 for the following locations.

Holland Tunnel
Lincoln Tunnel
Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel
Queens-Midtown Tunnel
George Washington Bridge lower level
Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge lower level

I will never ever be traveling anywhere's close to these places therefore I don't worry about it.
