I would like to know where the best place to mount the Garmin GPS units. With a class A diesel pusher, is the distance too far to get a good view of the monitor located on the winshield?

Mine sits flat on the dash between me and the DW. Works great.

Windshield? Tooo far! It should be close enough to touch and control. Mine is on the dash right of the steering wheel. I have had a backup gps on the left side window within easy reach. The satellite reception is important in the location too.

Until it got stolen the other night from the TOAD, I had modified a sirius mount, as the suction was better on the windsheild. I only use the windshield in the TOAD. I mounted a smooth plastic plate using 3m double sided to the dash, center. The GPS hung over the edge of the dash. It was good for both of us. I did have it slightly angled in my direction, but DW could lean a little bit and see it.
If anyone has an extra portable Sirius mount, I'm interested. I've ordered a new TomTom 740 Live.

Garmin sells a bean bag mount for the GPS unit. Mine sits on the dash directly in front of the driver, within reach

I got a Air vent mount for my GPS off of Ebay and like it much better than the windshield mount. I think it was around $15 with shipping.

A lot depends on the coach construdction
Fiberglass, Wood and Rubber you can put 'em most anywhere
Aluminum roof.> Get a model that can use an external antenna and roof mount it.. Then you are good to go
Suggestion, if you do not already have your Garmin get a low end like an E-Trex, get the 12 volt/computer cord and just use the GPS as a GPS.. Let your laptop be the map-computer
Advantage: Very nice keyboard to type on for finding your destination, Ability to save multiple rout maps and other maps. and the biggie is .... HOw big is the screen on your laptop v/s that tiny Garmin Screen?
