Hello! Thanks in advance, I was reading about the GPS question, and am starting to look for one, but am concerned as to whether the systems will direct you around a low bridge, or weight requirement, or "no rv/truck" highway, or "no propane allowed tunnel" information? Can anybody help me?

No they do not. However some have the ability to route you via truck routes which will reduce running into but not totally avoid these situations. You still have to keep an watch full eye out

CoPilot GPS
I have not used this unit but hear it is the one preferred from other drivers/truckers.
I did not want to spend the money and have been using a Sony NV-U73T for the last 6 months and paid around $120.00 at Sam’s Club. Over all I have been happy with it because it also does Canada. It does seem to lock up and take a bit of time to reroute me. It has put me on freeways and roads that are not open to big rigs but if you head to a road that is good it will readjust the route. I have just updated the software and it has once not known which button I pushed, the touch screen got confused but cleared up.

The major truck stops sell an excellent road map for truckers that has sections in it for state by state weight restrictions, roads with low bridges/underpasses and other useful info.

I have on-board navigation in my truck. I use 3 different mapping programs to plan my trips. But I ALWAYS check my Truckers Road Atlas for any road restrictions (primarily height, but others too) if I am leaving the interstate system. As previously stated, one can purchase this atlas at any truck stop. The front section addresses road restrictions.

The book is called, "The Rand McNally Motor Carriers Road Atlas."
Also, you can use this link for clearances: AITA Bridge Clearance Site
