I purchased a Garmin 465T GPS unit because it will allow me to set up the unit for the RV size and weight and then route according to weight, clearance etc. It also has Bluetooth so now I can use the cell phone hands free like in my cars. That was one feature that I really missed. I haven't used it yet. I'm waiting for the weather to dry out here in KY.
I purchased it from thegpsstore.com for $339.95. This is the 2nd time I have used them. They seem to have whatever is on the market and more accessories than I found in the stores around here (Cincinnati area)
I'd like to hear about other folks and their GPS units.

We have a Garmin 255W..like it... But we are looking at the same model you are.. I have not heard of anything better. My Buddy has a Tom Tom which may compare. But I do like the GARMINS overall. Like you we are looking forward to replies on your OP.

I see I am in good company. I also just recently purchased the Garmin 465T. Haven't had a chance to use it in the RV yet, but the traffic receiver did help me navigate around a traffic jam while in my car. As you pointed out, the BlueTooth is a nice addition.
I got mine on Amazon.com for $339 with free shipping. I see Camping World now has it on sale for the same price.

I have a Tom Tom and I love it. If someone offered me five grand for it and said if I sold it for the five grand I could not buy another one I would laugh at them and keep the GPS. I love the mobility of the unit. We move it from the coach to the toad and it is wonderful for them big cities like New Orleans or San Fran or St Louis. We just set the campsight we are in for ''HOME'' and hit the road for a ''look around'' and when we want to go back to the campsight we just hit ''RETURN HOME'' and it takes right back to the coach. This is indispensable out in Calif. when you go over to Frisco from the other side of the bay. They ''stack'' the roads out there and you can see where you want to ''GO'' but you cant get there from where you are. We travel the back roads and we have never had any problems with weight limits or low bridges yet.
Here is a tip. NEVER PUT YOUR CORRECT HOME ADDRESS IN THE UNIT. Use the police station in your home town because if you should lose the unit or it gets stolen, the people that find it can go right to your ''sticks and bricks'' and they know you aint home ........
This valuable info will cost you ten cents and you must pay me the next time you see me.

Hi Seajay,
Using home to mark the current CG location is a great idea. Thanks for the tip. My tab must be getting rather large. I have a roll of dimes with your name on it.

Great tip Seajay.
BTW what was your navy rating?
I was an EM. EM# while on active duty. Was able to sew on EM2 if I went to Reserves when I was released. But after 2 Westpac cruises (one during Tet) I decided to try traveling on my own dime.
Years later wound up as an IT VP for a company and worked on a project at the US Embassy in Paris. Best job I ever had.

I began with a Garmin nuvi 270, which served me well until I gave it to DW. I then bought a Garmin nuvi 1450T-last week ($199 at Radio Shack). It has so many more features that I'm kinda like a kid with a new toy. I looked at the truckers/RV models, but they all seem to confine me to major roads, and do not allow me the option of choosing my preferences. Since we all know to never completely trust GPS directions, I consult my Truckers Road Atlas for confirmation of routing, then look up bridge and weight restrictions on 2-lane roads I choose.
Seajay, I have followed your method since getting my first GPS unit, the other option is to use the Garmin lock feature. I don't use that because if we forget the code the unit must be returned, with proof of purchase, to Garmin for unlocking. That would be a real pain when traveling. Another thing I do is to never add last names to my address listings. No-one but DW and I know last names of entries, an attempt to protect our family and friends.

Ray, thanks for the feedback on 1450T... As far as "LOCKING" your GPS.. You could use your cell phone, b'day... My user-name (just kidding).. You get the idea.
Continued god luck and keep us posted on your findings with your new "TOY"

We've used a TomTom Go910 for three years and really like it. However, we're in the process of permanently moving it to the Toad and replacing it with an HP Netbook mounted on the dash which will host MS Streets and Trips and GMSPC... something which has been on my wish list for a long time.
