I am considering the purchase of a GPS. I have done a search on this form and found a number of threads on GPS units, but they seem to covered older GPS's. I have been looking at the new TomTom VIA 1535TM, it has a 5" touch screen, bluetooth, voice directions and voice commands.

Does anyone have this model, if so, the good, the bad and ugly. If not this make and model, what would you recommend.

Thanks

I just purchased the Garmin Nuvi 1490LMT. It's a 5" screen, directs you into the proper lane for upcoming turns, has Bluetooth, voice direction that's changeable and best of all free map updates for life.

Mike

I do not have any experience with Tom Toms.

I know you can download / transfer routes from a mapping website (like mapquest) on a Garmin only.

I use this instead of just putting in a address in the GPS. This way you can create all your routes / stops using the internet and send that over to your GPS.

Another note, there are a lot more POI's for Garmin than Tom Tom.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks all for the feedback. Still researching the different makes and models. Haven't made up my mind, but I know I want bluetooth, lane change information and free map updates. The main thing I want is one that is simple and easy to use.

I've got my second TomTom and have been happy. First one was a go500 which used a windshield that I had issues with from the get go. TomTom did kind of a recall where if you contacted them they replaced it free of charge. All was wel for a few years. Then about a month ago the unit wouldn't stay seated on the mount, which it needs to charge. Purchased an XXL and I love it. The windshield mount has been reconfigured and the power cord plugs into the unit instead of the mount. The new operating system has me impressed. Good luck with your search.

My 2 cents.

Get a unit that is made for truckers. That way you can specify your MH's height requirements for low bridges.

That way, the GPS will not route you somewhere that has a low bridge w/o a way to get around it.

The larger screens are nice, especially since it won't be located directly in front of your face. Most likely on the center of the dash and just a smidgen too far to see easily.

I like my 2008 TomTom One XL, had the map of U.S. updated this year. Works great, never a problem.

I just got a new Garmin 560LMT. It is made for RVs and trucks with bridge avoidance and etc. It has a very large 7" screen and I was able to use it for pedestrian traveling by downloading a street and building map of any city I visit.

Your post caught my eye ... 7" screen... that is what I want..
Then I looked on Garmin's website, it states it has a 5" screen.
Do you have the 560?
