Plugging it into the splitter?
You should plug the HDMI cord from the phone (lightning adapter) to the TV directly.
Best to turn power of to the tv (although not required) then plug in the HDMI/iPhone into the tv then power up the tv.
HDMI requires a handshake and sometimes things don't always play nicely together.

I plugged it into the tv long before I tried the splitter(splitter was just a shot in the dark). Plugged into tv I tried hdmi 1,2,and 3. Got no connection message for all 3. No clue as to what to try next.

When you plug directly into the TV are you also selecting the correct input on the tv? Are you using the correct lightning to hdmi adapter for your model iphone?

Yes. Going to hdmi under source and trying all 3 hdmi outputs. It is plugged into hdmi 3 according to tv manual. Is it something to do w the dvr or antenna? Have not touched those.

I've found that often I have to unplug from the phone and then plug it back in so it will make the "handshake". Have you successfully used the cable before? If not, you may have a cable that's not truly compatible. I've had that happen and had to replace the cable with one that guarantees compatibility.

I have iPhone 6s plus and connect directly to my Panasonic TV using lightning to HDMI adapter and it works fine. Other than selecting input on TV didn't have to do anything special. Is your adapter the official Apple one?
