I know Bill will weigh in here, but I will throw my 2 cents in also.

If you have DirecTV and want access to their full allotment of programming, you must have the ability to recieve both KA and KU broadcast. DirecTV has already started the migration of programming away from it's location in the recent past. That being the case, a dish such as MotoSAT's HD-SL5 will give you the most flexibility.

Yes, the MotoSAT slimline antenna is the way to go today. 6 months to a year from now you will only need a 3 head (1KU, 2KA) dish but even when that happens your slimline will still work just fine.
No dome on the market today will ever pick up any of the KA satellites so NO HD from a dome.
CORRECTION: No DTV HD from a dome. Dish Network is still using 3 KU band satellite for their programming. If you can get any kind of an antenna that will pick up 110, 119 and 129 AND work with an HD receiver you would be able to receive the Dish Net. HD programming. MotoSAT also makes a 3 head dish for the Dish Network programming. Some HD receivers will not work properly unless they are able to see all satellites at the same time. This is also impossible with a dome.

MotoSAT's HD-SL5 dish is pricey at approx. $2300.

However, ya gotta pay if ya wanna play.

At that price, I haven't decided if I want to play yet.

Bill, I understand that my present MHDTV mount will not be usable with the HD-SL5, correct?

Is the MHDTV roof plate reusable with the HD-SL5?

Dirk,
Yes, you will be able to remove the entire mount and reuse the baseplate, wiring and the Nomad 2 (if you have one) with the new dish. You might want to hang in there, if you can, as MotoSAT will also be producing a 3-head dish for 99, 101 and 103 (KA, KU, KA). I have not yet heard if there might be a dish/arm only upgrade available for this setup.

Thanks Bill.

You input here is invaluable.

The rumored new 3 head is still in the future, but for the immediate future, the 5 head is required, correct?

Any trade in value for my MHDTV on the HD-SL5?

Unfortunately, the changes that DTV has made to their services is making the MHDTV antenna a dinosaur long before its time. There will not be any HD programming left on the 110 and 119 satellites so the only thing the MHDTV antenna will do is pick up the regular 101 SD satellite programming. I can't say that there's not someone out there that would buy it, I am not sure of anyone who would take it in trade.
The HD-SL5 (High Definition-Slimline 5 LNB) antenna is needed now. 1+ years down the road nearly everything will be available on the 99 (KA), 101 (KU) and 103 (KA) satellites with 110 most likely being abandoned and the 119 serving up ethnic and specialty programming. There will be (not might be) a BOW for the F1 and G-74 internet antennas in the VERY near future that will pick up the 99, 101 and 103 satellites making these antennas a great value for internet and TV reception.
Things are changing fast and furious and MotoSAT remains the leader in the field providing the necessary hardware for the RVer to receive the signals that serve their desires.

Hmmmmmmmmm.

I just happen to have an F1 on the roof also.

Would I have to be on a certain Hughes satellite for the BOW to work? I'm on 127 now.

Yes, there are a few Hughes satellites that will not be able to take advantage of the BOW and 127 is one of these. If you are a VAR customer there is no concern there as MotoSAT will just move you to another satellite.
Hughes has 10 satellites and I believe that only 2 or 3 will not work with the upcoming BOW. I am very excited about this BOW and may update to HD (don't ask me why, as I simply don't get it) just so I can test this thing!

MotoSAT is my VAR.

If I were to use the new BOW, 99, 101, 103, will I lose any channels by not receiving the 110, and 119, or is the 5LNB going to be required in the interim to receive all channels.

Yes. If there is any programming left that you watch on 110 and 119 this programming will be lost. As of today the only way to get ALL of the DTV programming is with the 5 head Slimline dish. DTV is in the process of moving all but some of their ethnic programming to those 3 satellites but it could take another year or more for it to be completed. No one knows for sure.

Bill, Are you saying that in a year+ we will be able to use the 3 LNB I have here that was replaced with the 5LNB?? Or will it be a different type of 3 LNB?? Any Ideas?? I was going to toss it but if they plan to go back to the 3 LNB maybe I should keep it....
