Are you connecting to the internet via a wireless network? If so, I would suspect a problem with the network before IE. Refresh your network list, disconnect, and then reconnect to see if that helps.
If you are connecting to your modem via a cable, check all the cable connections.

BTW, many people prefer Mozilla Firefox to IE. IMO, it is faster and has fewer security problems. Once you get back on the internet, you may want to consider downloading
