Explain to me why anyone would want to pay the high cost of data to stream movies instead of going to the nearest RedBox and renting them at $1.50 each?

There are at least 2 new spot-beam sat Internet services.

If I had to choose one now, I'd go with this service from RTC.

For me, there are 2 reasons:
  • There's No Redbox Near Me -- Let's say I'm camping at Alamo State Park, AZ. According to the Redox web site, the nearest Redbox location would be in Quartzite -- about 40 miles away according to Redbox. However, a quick check on Google maps shows the actual distance is more like 80 miles. It looks like Redbox used "as the crow flies" miles. Thanks, but I'm not driving 40 miles across the Arizona desert to watch Terminator Genesis.
  • Redbox Doesn't Have What I Want To Watch -- if I want to see Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, or the upcoming The Man in the High Castle, I won't find these shows on Redox. More and more shows -- great shows -- are being created by streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime. And I guess that's the point with me -- if you're going to pay all that for data, you might as well watch something that's only available by streaming.

We are moderate users -- on Verizon's JetPack. We don't watch movies or download music, but (in addition to daily checking regular eMail and a couple bank websites) we do a fair amount of web surfing, watch an occasional YouTube, and update our blog at least once a week. Surprisingly, we use between 10g and 12g a month (we are on their 12g plan). We started with a 6g plan and very quickly found that it was not enough. \ken
