How much wind can a Winegard SK-3005 handle?

Winds in Albuquerque today are about 40 mph sustained with gusts up to 70! Our Winegard Travler seems to be doing okay, but I was wondering if I should stow it until this passes. How much wind can the dish handle? I couldn't find anything on the Winegard web site.

That's alot of wind

...are you using awning tie downs...I would think 40 mph sustained would be to much

...but a few gusts, if you are tied down, you should be good to go

...but I would error on the side of caution, take the awning in

Wow Glenn that does sound like a lot....We close up the slides at about 60 MPH winds. I don't really know of the tolerance that a dish will take as we don't even have one. Sorry! Hope you see ya soon. rockin'

We've been in some pretty strong gusts

down in the RGV w/o any issues. I would think that it would do pretty good in some high winds. It seems to be a pretty stout unit.

I can't speak for yours since mine is mounted on a heavy tripod. I use three rubber straps to tent stake nails to hold it in place. While in Alamogordo last Dec. it blew over and never pulled the stakes out of the ground in 50-70 mph winds. It did bend the dish enough that I could not get the HD channels after that. New dish cost $85.00 shipped to the house.

If it was mine I would stow it. Since I'm a poor ole redneck.

Oh still, there you go again....leavin' yourself open again!! First off....you are a big "blow" hard......heck you could cause that much wind just tellin' one of your redneck stories!! I know there was sumthin' else....but I done forgot it already....enough for now....OK?

My HD Dish antenna does just fine in high wind, but it's attached to the house which is made of 2 x 4s and siding. Your Trav'ler is attached to a thin fiberglass roof supported by something a little less stout than a 2 x 4. The antenna is fine, but you're playing roulette with your roof.

I was going to agree with thelastplace post above. We have a traveler and have had discussions with the installer about this. He says the dish is very sturdy, and would not be the problem. The problem comes in what its mounted to, in other words, what the roof can bear. He puts his down on his motor home if gusts get to 50 or above. We have used that 45 or 50 rule on the Excel, so far no problems.

Gusts up to 70-mine would definately be down!!!

Thanks for the comments! I think the gusts yesterday were limited to around 50-ish, so we lucked out. Our dish, and the few others in the campground, all did just fine. But I think next time, we'll stow it just in case. Today's winds are supposed to be much lighter, although i just went outside, and it's COLD again! Ugh!

I'm sure the dish can stand more than the aqttachments to the coach roof. They would most likely pull out and damage the roof before the dish sustained any damage. Personaly, I'd stow it.

Okay, I understand now. When it gets really windy, Rockin' climbs up on his roof with a glass of wine and steadies the dish so Ms. Donna can watch TV!
