I'm new at this, planning on going fulltime
in a couple of months. Sooner or later,
I'll have a dish for internet. I expect I'll have
to drop my longtime email account and start anew.
Then the question hit me: where, exactly,
will it be? At my home campground and their
wifi? or get the dish quickly and set up
an account with my provider or salesperson's
company? There
are so many options, it's confusing. And
I don't want to be paying multiple utility
bills for many accounts.
Thanks

If you use someone like Juno (mine.. $9.95/mo), you can access them via local numbers in many places (currently what I'm doing, but I'm not in a campground... in a condo). We have connected via cellphone using Verizon as well as using our home area phone numbers via cell phone.
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">At my home campground and their

But if I were in the position to lose it, I would try to get the dish addy as soon as I could. This way I would have time to get the word out to everyone about the change. Which would probably take as much time as it did to swap all our mail over to our mailing service (what a pain!).

Well said Lorna.
We use Gmail email address. Do a search on IRV2 "Gmail" or goto Gmail.com for an account, they are free and, I think, Google will be here for the long term.
We have a dial-up ISP(netzero-free), but are finding Wi-Fi more and more prevelent and are using the dial-up less and less. Suspect within a short time dial-up will be a thing of the past for RV'ers.
So if you desire you can have an ISP and email account without any utility bill.

I think I'll get one of those $35/yr Yahoo
accounts, as I need to upload images and large-ish
files sometimes. Looks easy and universal.
That will be my business account. After the
dish comes, I'll set up personal accounts.
thanks

When I was moving from one side of the country to the other I used MSN's hotmail.com
I could check messages anywhere I could get access to the web. City librarys, hotel lounges, etc. I still have that account and it does not cost me anything. I think Yahoo also has a mail site.

I have been using MSN's Hotmail Email for about 8 years, which means I have had the same Email address for that same period of time, no matter where I travel. It is a "Web" based service, which means if you can get on the Internet you can get your Email. I think the fee is less than $20.00 a year.
Try hotmail.com in Google.

Thanks Don. This is an easily resolved issue,
as I've learned. Many places provided
completely mobile email and I'll probably
use Yahoo.
Thanks

Doesn't your web hosting company have an email server?
I have DirecWay via a tripod dish setup, but my main email server is my domain, bobhatch.com.
The DirecWay email servers are, IMO, crappy at best. Again, IMO, if you plan on getting a dish, tripod or DataStorm, do it to start with. The sooner you have things settled the better you'll feel about the fulltiming experience.

Just for money considerations, I was thinking
of putting off the dish while I test
the wifi abilities of our home campground.
But you're right, the sooner I square away,
the better. My web server just won't do
for a domain, it's not part of their service
package. A gmail or yahoo account is easy,
cheap or even free.
thanks

When we went full time I went with a direcway system on a tripod, worked well. Have a datastorm system now which is a dream to use. As for an email account if you become an Escapee member you can get a free email account for life.
I must agree with Bob direcway email is the worst email account you can have, to much spamm.
As a full timer look into the Escapees ( escapees.com )

You have to have a connection to the Internet and all provide at least one e-mail address. Most now have email that is web-based. You can access and send and save email right on the Internet.
My advice is to stay away from AOL...too many problems and they are known to block email from any provider they wish without rectifying the situation as most do. I would serious consider joining Escapees for an email address...sounds good.
Also, most providers give you at least 5mb or space for a personal web site. Many offer blogs now, also.

Art, I don't know who you have as a web hosting company, but, again IMO, it's worth a few bucks a year to get a hosting company that allows you control over your email accounts.
I use RTS Hosting. http://www.rtshosting.com. You can get an account that will give you unlimited email address's, 75 meg of space for your web site, filters you can control and a lot of other stuff for $60.00 per year. It's the starter plan. I want control over my email, and email address's, and with a hosting company like this I can have an address for me, my wife, each one of my web sites, and a friend.
YMMV

bob, I've never thought of that. I let my
website be run by other people, and I don't
know a lick of HTML. but I'll go to
the company you suggest and investigate;
there are other websites I'd like to have,
one for my writing, for instance. So thanks
for the good idea.
