We recently bought a lot and left the MH there for a week. While we were gone, there were big winds in northern AZ. I had left the tripod dish setup outside. On the way back, we saw highway signs folded over and flattened. When we got to the motorhome, the dish was down. On closer inspection, it was bent.

The reflector had a dent at the edge and the arm was about 3" out of line. I bent it back as close as I could, then figured it was futile. I just planned on running the dome. I fired up the receiver and had to wait for it to complete an update, then went to the signal strength. It was 75%. I ran the check switch routine and all satellites were good.

I could not believe it. I hadn't done anything but set the tripod back on its feet and turn the dish south. And the dish was damaged. It's working just as well as it ever has. I'm a dish aiming god! (Or just got really really lucky )

But will this make up for when you are out in the open with no obstructions and not a cloud in the sky and you still can't find a signal?

Adding insult to injury, we had more wind and snow...in AZ...in May. The wind did move the dish, but I was able to get the signal back this morning. Then the snow started blocking it. With a few flicks of a brush, it's good again.

Well_ shut my mouth. And to think I was complaining about clouds and heavy rain blocking the dish signal, and temps in the 70's today. Then there is you- with that glass half-full thinking.

The wind is the reason I built this sat mount. ttp://bbrv.dreamstation.com/sat.html.
I have DirecTV and it works great. A friend of mine built one and uses it on his Dish 500 antenna. It took a little more time to set up the Dish 500 antenna, but it works. You won't have to worry about it blowing over. However, with the larger Dish 500 a very strong wind will shake the antenna.

I have seen that design. This wind probably would have tossed it. The local paper quoted 60-70 mph and looking at the flattened highway signs, I believe it. The wind flipped our grill, and it's not light. The tripod is the one from TV4RV, with a bungie cord attached to the ground. That kept it from blowing away. We own the lot, so I think I'll just setup a permanent pole for the dish.
