I Have Ordered the New Hughes Gen V Satellite Internet

Well, call me an early adopter. I currently have AT&T plus Verizon, and I'm adding to that the new Jupiter 2 Hughes Gen V satellite Internet service. It's pretty expensive at $1,500 for the equipment up front, but if it works as advertised then I'll have Internet anywhere in most of North America. If it doesn't, then I'll pay $400 to cancel the service and have a $1,500 pile of satellite parts.

Sooooo, soon I'll have an empirical report on how this works, how easy it is (or isn't) to set up each time we move, observed bandwidth and latency, and so forth. I really do hope it works out well.

I had Hughes Net for over a decade. I see all of the complaints about them but I never experienced any of that.

My only complaint was the low data caps. The only reason I changed is now I have an option for 5x the data limit which is actually less money.

The plan I'm going with is $219/mo. for 100GB. It's a manual dish alignment.

So what will you use for internet if you're someplace where you can't get a clear line of sight to the sats?

How difficult will it it be to aim without auto alignment? Is a auto align model available?

If I have no Verizon, no AT&T, and no satellite, I will use... vacation.

Dunno yet. I did spend for the nicer alignment tool. When it's in I'll be able to tell you on a scale of 1-1000 how many curse words go into the setup each time.

Ugh, I only answered one of your two questions. I hate when others do that to me.

There is no auto-align model available to my knowledge.
