Well, for two days now I have been pulling what little hair I have out one strand at a time. (Less painful that way).

It seems that iCal on the MAC, and MobileMe can get into a sync problem and all the forums I have read have not helped me.

Problem: enter data on the mac and it is supposed to populate MobileMe and transfer to an iPad or iPhone (I don't have an iPhone) calendar. Enter data on the iPad and it is supposed to transfer data, via MobileMe to the MAC. Enter data on MobileMe calendar and it is supposed to transmit the data to the MAC and the iPad. My DW was very upset that her calendar items were not appearing. (Believe it or not my MAC crashed and I lost some information) All is up and running but the problem remained that we could not transfer calendar events. Frustrating is not the word, but those words I used are not repeatable here.

To the rescue: Buried in the bowels of the MobileMe help section (small section) is this:
(I've shortened it for brevity)
==========
Open iCal
Choose File > Export > Export
Type a calendar name and choose a location

Choose File > New Calendar and choose a MobileMe calendar (your MobileMe address)
Type a calendar name
Choose File > Import > Import, select your exported iCal calendar
Select the destination MobileMe calendar that you want to add the imported iCal to.
==========

There will be three boxes, Work, Home, and iPad. I imported all to home. When DW typed in an event on the ipad it showed up a different color under Work. (go figure since iPad was there). Play with the check boxes and uncheck all the boxes for "On My MAC)

I hope some of those forum guru's that have not found this answer, find this one. I see a lot of upset iCal users on those forums.

Merry Christmas to all, and a Happy New Year.

The above instructions are buried in the MobileMe Help file system. Click on the little gear in the right hand corner of the MobileMe calendar and drill down to the instructions.

I feel for you Wayne. I have an iphone, mac and mobileme. I guess my preferences were already set to go, because as soon as I opened and started using ical, my data was transferred. I didn't even know it would do that! I wonder if you have a "push" option on your ipad? My iphone pushes data (shares with my email, ical, etc) at my request or at regular (selected) intervals. My "fetch new data" (push) option is under settings>mail, contacts, calendars. I don't have an ipad (as much as I'd love one, I just can't justify it with an iphone and a macbook pro already in this small space), so I can't say for sure that it would have the same options, but mac is pretty consistent.
It just seems like what you're doing is an awful lot of work to get data moved. I hope that's not the only solution.
Good luck!

Dyana,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I use the "push" method also.

It's funny that I received an email from MobilMe after the fact and they wanted permission to access my iCal. They gave me a long progression of things to do to back up all the calendars. I respectfully declined since it is "working" now.

I forgot to mention that prior to the MAC crash, the iPad had a problem during the installation of IOS 4.2. It hung up and the only way I could fix it was, and as Apple suggested, to do a hard reset. Of course, that lost everything on the iPad.

Backup, backup, backup backup, but I did not know at the time that my backup hard drive was not keeping up with the backups. My wife lost all of the Journal entries she was keeping on the iPad of our trip East. Does the word "upset" mean anything. I have subsequently replace the backup drive with an Apple Time Capsule with Airport capabilities. It appears to be working well. I check it every day to see what the times of the incremental backups are. I guess I'm getting paranoid.

Fortunately all of my photos and personal information is kept on an external hard drive, so when the MAC crashed I had everything important there. It's just a pain to have to re-install operating systems.

I have really thought a long time on picking up a MacBook Pro, but I cannot justify the cost. The iPad belongs to my wife as a gift from me. It is difficult to wrench it out of her paws. I use the term paws because she will bite my head off if I reach for it. About the only time I get to use it is when we are at a laundromat on the road, or when it needs maintenance. She loves it. And, it is a very handy item to carry around in the car with you when traveling. It's an un-glorified little computer that can fetch a lot of data. The GPS in it is real nice on that big screen.

My wife and I both have iPhones and several Mac's (both laptops and desktops). We each have our own accounts. She (Ginger) had problems a couple of months ago when she was using the beta version of mobile me. A phone call to apple resolved this.

We have been very happy with the syncing of all our devices.

Thanks for the info..
