without a digital converter, what will I see on the picture screen? Is there any indication at all that I am tuned to an active channel, or will I only see snow and static on all channels?
I know this is an odd question, but I had to make a repair to the coax coming from the antenna and I want to make sure the repair worked before spending money on a digital converter.
thanks!
Ed

You will see snow and static, unless there is still a analog transmitter on in your area.

When I recently bought my coach, no converter was included. The make-ready tech told me they had found one channel locally (DFW) that they could watch. I haven't found it. However, I had several converters, so I installed one for the front tv. Works great.
Ed, where are you located? I think I still have an extra converter.

There are still a very very very few analog transmitters here in the US, they are usually low-power repeater stations, but odds of your being near one ... Very low.
Mostly you will see static. Or the flashes that indicate an approaching tornado.

From the FCC "The digital television (DTV) transition refers to the switch from analog to digital broadcast television. All full-power television stations have stopped broadcasting in analog, and now broadcast only in digital. However, there are three other categories of broadcast TV stations – “low-power,” “Class A” and “translator” stations. Although these types of stations also must eventually switch to digital broadcasting, there is currently no deadline for them to turn off their analog signals. "

While it would be a pain... if you have an old VCR or any other device that has an output on Channel 3/4 you could attach it to the roof cable and play a tape to see if you get a signal on CH 3 or 4.
If you know a ham radio operator with a ATV (Amateur TeleVision) setup, you could have him transmit on one of the ATV channels which are television channels 57-60 (421.50mhz, 427.250mhz, 434.000mhz, 439.250mhz).
