In Dash Stereo/GPS

I was told that the Kenwood unit in the Tiffin we just got has the Garmin map program and has lifetime map updates just like my on dash Garmin Dezl 760.
I talked with a Garmin rep and they said none of the in dash units are compatible with the lifetime update. She said it costs about $70 to update the maps on the Kenwood.
I just updated the Dezl with the 2020 map but the Kenwood shows the 2017 version. The $70 per update for the Kenwood seems to be a ripoff to me.
What's the real story?

As I understand all indash GPS require a CD to upgrade. They can and do stick it to you for the updates. For an RV I would stick with your dash unit and ignore the built in one. Usually the portables have more features too.
