In Motion Dome Recomendations Please
I am working on a deal for a new DP and getting a Sat Dome included in the deal.
I was looking at their accessories online and there were just too many makes and models for me to choose one since I know nothing about "In Motion" systems. I am very familiar with Sat systems in general.
Some of the ones they had available were like a. King Dome LP model 221543 b. Roadtrip Mission model 221451 c. KVH Tracvision R1DX
I wonder if some of you guys can recommend specific manufacturer and model numbers.
1. I will be using Dish Network service.
2. I think I would like a 'low profile' to keep the overall coach height down.
3. Capable of HD of course.
4. In Motion capable.
5. Dual output (even though I understand it only sees 1 sat at a time).
Thanks for your help.

My recommendation is don't. The in-motion feature is rarely used, and the domed dishes are inferior to the Winegard Travler. Pay the difference, upgrade to the Travlr, and you will get better reception, much less rain fade, and the ability to watch two different satellites at the same time, which you cannot do with Dish on a dome.

Be carful about advice... People recommend what they have, not the one they don't have. You may find that the in-motion dome with DISH may be a good fit. Talk to others that have that installed to get their side.

If your set on an in-motion dome the Winegard Roadtrip Mission is the best of the three you listed.

I've had both. That's why I recommend the Travlr. But you can do as you wish.

I have had a Winegard and a King Dome (neither in motion) and now have a Travler. The Travler is in my opinion the only way to go. It never fails to find the birds, never loses the signal, and we can watch 2 different channels at the same time.

In motion domes can do HD for Dish Network. They cannot do HD for DirecTV.

My DW has ours on everytime we travel, she loves to have the TV on and watch it going down the road......I something happened to ours, I know it would have to be replaced with a in-motion.

Now, I usually drive in the day, i'd really rather drive at night most of the time but alas.. I sleep at night so... But back to topic
The Daytime shows I record are more to keep the blasted adapter turned on than anything else.. This might be different if I had Satellite but frankly.. Don't think so.....
I use DVR's to record video (2 shows at one time) so.. I can use an In-Motion and still drive.. But there are issues with domes. All domes (Both in-motion and stationary)
Dish: Domes can see one bird (Satellite) At a time, DISH uses 3 so if you are recording 2 shows on the same bird, GREAT, if they are on different birds.. Problem
DirecTV, Uses one bird so it's great but no HD, DirecHDTV uses 3 birds and 2 of them are not visible to a dome no matter what you do (Save a whole bunch or re-engineering) as they are a different frequency band which the dome can not see.
Recommendation:
IF you put a dome on the roof. put an A/B switch in the LNB lead
A=Above (the dome)
B=Below, a ground block or bulkhead connector where you can hook up the proper dish to match your service.
In my case it's a double ground Block on the Brake Bell crank Bracket down Below under the hood.

lllkrob, thanks for answering the question without giving me an opinion on 'in motion' or an explanation of how satellite systems work.
Just wanted to post back so everyone knows I have been reading the responses. Thanks to all.

Same here. Winegard low profile in-motion, with DISH. Stays pocked onto three satellites most of the time.

My recommendation is don't. I have one and have used it less than half dozen times. Also the plastic dome causes loss of signal when it rains and snows. Better off getting a quality Sat that receives HD and cranks up with auto adjustment. With laptop PCs and I-Pads, passengers can watch TV, videos and DVDs going down the road.

Since the OP wants an in-motion dome that is what he should get. However, he ought to be aware of the fact that domes are practically useless with DVRs since only one satellite can be received at any one time. Therefore, you can't watch one channel and record another unless they happen to be located on the same satellite. Since HD programming for Dish uses 3 satellites, it is unlikely that the programs you want will all be on the same satellite. With receivers like the Dish Hopper and the DirecTV Genie capable of recording multiple programs at the same time, I can't understand why someone would want to purchase a system that can't support the receiver's capabilities. But the OP says he needs in-motion capability so that limits his options.
