Hi All,
New to this forum and have a question about in-motion sat. We picked up our MH in October and took on one roadtrip before we had to winterize. When we we did the in-motion did not pick up channels real well while driving. We went through mountains allot, so did not know if this is normal. One thing though, when we went to go pick up MH they said all they had was a white dome cover and it stuck out like a sore thumb, so they painted it black, without asking us anything about it. Could that be a problem on picking up channels? Should we contact them and ask to send us a black one that is not painted? Not real familiar with dish we have cable at home. Thanks in advance!

Domes sometimes have problems just from rain. I would not be at all surprised if having painted the dome would cause a problem. I would think a call to the manufacturer of the dome would be in my first step in solving this.

I have had 2 different KVH in-motion dome satellites on 2 different coaches. Painting the dome with a NON-metallic paint works fine. I believe that I found the information on the KVH website which merely mentioned that you should not use a metallic paint. I have had no problems related to the painted dome. I have not experienced problems with dew and only strong downpours have caused problems in the past. It is normal to lose reception while driving tree lined roads including interstate highways depending on the direction traveling.
Good luck
Jim

No metallic paint. Airplanes use non-metallic paints on their radadomes. You should be good to go with black.
