in motion satellite constant noise while stationary
we put an in motion satelitte dome (Winegard) on the RV. but when stationary it seems to make constant noise-like its looking for satelittes. I do have a signal and good reception. so when i turn it off I still have signal and the noise goes away-(yeah because I took away its power to search). the instructions don't say anything about in motion and stationary use being different.
are the use instructions different for the in motion satelitte being used when stationary? am i supposed to turn off the power after getting a signal?

I had a winegard in motion and it would search for 20-30 minutes after it was stationary. If there was no movement in that time it would stop searching and was quiet. This was correct according to the manual for that unit. It was an mv3500T

Most in-motion antennas will continue to keep the motors alive and will have minor movement of the dish when you are stationary. If your dish has locked on, has a good signal and you are happy with the picture then turn off the dish. However, if you want to use the dish while in motion make sure you turn it on before you move the coach as it will take much less time to lock on the satellite.

If you are a DirecTV customer you can turn off the antenna since you only need to locate the one DirecTV satellite at 101. If you are a Dish Network customer you must leave the antenna on to allow it to switch between the various satellites. The in-motion units should continue to move for 5-10 minutes after you are stopped and then put themselves to "sleep" (unless DN and then it will move every time you change channels).

Actually, 95% of the channels for Dish Network come through satellite 119, so generally you can turn off the in motion antenna when stationary.

Ah, if only that were true! It may be that 95% of the channels you watch come from one satellite but if you include all of the channels plus the HD channels you are going to need at least 2 (2nd for HD) and likely 3.
