We are considering purchasing an in motion satellite system for our motothome. Who has what and what would they recommend? Thank you!

mihandley, You are certainly in the right forum to get the answer you are looking for. I'm sure you will get a number of responses soon.
The KVH TrackVision products are the only ones that I can think of right now although there are more out there.

Best of luck...

I have the KVH Tracvision, seems to work just fine after its first year of use. I like not having to point the dish in the correct direction when stopped, turn it on and lit it fine the sat. Right now I give it a thumbs up. Did have a limit switch go bad, KVH had a local replace.

mihandley,
My 2 cents worth-
Before you spend a lot of money just remember if your interested in a high definition picture I don't think there is a domed, in motion, unit capable of doing that yet.
I'm sure Bill Adams will advise you on that-

I have the King Dome in motion version that came with the rv. I don't think I would invest the extra money on an in motion unit. It works well untill you are on a winding road and the dw gets upset because it can't keep up or there are tall trees blocking the signal.
If Mama aint happy. nodody's happy

That's true for DirecTV.
You CAN get HD with Dish Network and a dome, *but* since a dome only "sees" one satellite at a time, that can problems if you have two TVs and want to watch two different programs that come on two different satellites OR you have a DVR and want to watch a program that comes on one satellite and record another program that is on a different satellite. Can't be done.

Unfortunately, Bill is no longer on this forum...he left several months ago.

You know what? there are pros and cons to everything....How many people drive down the winding road watching tv??? maybe more than I know but not us, so not a major factor. Watching more than one tv at a time...has not been a problem of us.
HD?? Tell you what, I am amazed at the picture I get on all three of my tvs in the mh..it is even better than the hd I get at home.
I like the fact I do not have to play around getting the dish set up once I am parked, just turn it on and make myself a drink.

Guess I should have stated it differently so that everyone would understand.
I would not go to the extra expense of an in motion satelite dome. I have not seen any that track fast enough to be reliable on roads that have hills and curves. If most travel is on interstates they may work just fine.
Generally when I'm on the interstate I'm sleeping anyway so please pass quietly.

Hi mihandley,
Welcome to iRV2. Keeping this simple, if you want hi definition TV forget any dome. I've had a KVH in motion dome for over 5 years. Standard definition TV is okay for me. I have Direct TV. It has worked as advertised and I would make the same purchase again. It is one of the few features, on this coach, that has given no, absolutely no trouble. Between the wife and Gkids the unit gets a lot of use. Everything has its' limits. All I can tell you is KVH in motion works very well for me. One button operation is what I'm looking for and this is what is delivered. Its' like a toaster, one button to set it and then forget it.

Bill Adams has quite a bit of skill and experience in this area. He also has a business that sells different communications solutions. While I found his posts to be technically accurate, I also found some of them to have a bias to what he sells. This means I read his posts with the same believability I would take from any vendor with something to sell. If anyone wants to contact Bill, PM me. I can direct you to a forum he is now posting on.

I have the King Dome in motion system and love it has very seldom not worked well, hilly winding roads don't seem to cause any problems for mine. Will loose signal a little faster in a heavy rain than a open dish but not big deal for us. Well worth the investment as far as I'm concerned. Oh yea using directv not dish so not HD, but picture is as good as HD receiver at home.

We had a dome satellite dish and it was an in motion dish...we replaced it with another dish because it would only lock onto one satellite at a time and we never used it in motion. We had trouble with it locking onto a satellite, now we have no problems getting three satellites at one time for the dish network.

I have a Winegard in motion dish for my Dishnetwork and have been happy with it. On my last coach I had a KVH which gave me frequent problems. With Dish I am able to have HD service and PIP but like another said I can't record a program or do the PIP etc if the channels I want to access are on different sats.
I now mostly use the in motion feature when pulling into a wooded area to park. Years ago I discovered if I am locked on to the sat when entering a wooded area it will often keep it but if I try to find it when parked it cannot do it. Would I pay for it for that reason, NO.
