For some time now, DH and I have been debating whether to get sattelite TV. I think we've come to the conclusion that for us, for now, it's not worth the expense. At least half the parks we stay at offer cable of some kind and when that's not available, regular broadcast TV is fine.
But what I would like to have is a DVR. So I'm wondering if/how that would work.
Can one be installed in such a way that it would work off both the antenna and cable?
Would it be connected before the switcher box or after?
Has anyone done this and can they explain the process to me?
Thanks

Depends on what kind of DVR you are considering.
Some DVRs (such as the Standalone TiVo) require a "program guide" in order to work. This would require daily connection to the internet (or phone line). Other types of DVRs do not require a "program guide" to work, and program the same way as your old VCR did. In that case, you would connect it up just like you did your VCR.

I have an older DVR/VHS player/recorder. If you just connect it to where the TAPE/VHS unit was connected you will be OK.
You can connect the TV to the output (S-Video or R/W/Y cable) and operate the TV accordingly by setting the TV input to Video In.
